Senior Writer and Communications Project Manager

 

The Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement (PAE) at the University of Pittsburgh is dedicated to fostering meaningful relationships with donors, alumni, and stakeholders, supporting the University's mission in education, research, and healthcare. We invite you to become a pivotal part of our team as the Senior Writer and Communications Project Manager.

In this role, you will serve as the integral part within PAE's Office of the Vice Chancellor department, reporting to the Director of Communications, Alumni Annual Giving and Engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with division and University colleagues to engage alumni.
  • Collaborate with partners such as the Pitt Alumni Association, Alumni Annual Giving, regional campuses, and schools.
  • Assist with communications for large-scale campus traditions (e.g., Homecoming, Lantern Night, Pitt Day of Giving).
  • Support PAE social media efforts as needed.
  • Develop and execute multi-channel communications plans.
  • Create content for print, social media, and digital platforms (email, web, text).
  • Write and proofread copy; direct design; manage video production and scriptwriting; handle photo management.
  • Implement best practices for digital communications.
  • Utilize experience in email communications and social media creation.
  • Collaborate with a highly collegial and organized approach to meet the needs and deadlines of partners across the University.
  • Maintain flexibility and adaptability in creative work.

Job Summary

Prepares, designs, writes, and edits marketing and promotional materials and print and electronic communications. Develops, reviews, and maintains web content for public University websites. Manages writing project review and approval process and ensures adherence to schedules, guidelines, and brand. Mentors student and temporary workers.

Essential Functions

  • Applicant must have the ability to research, write, edit and proofread written work.
  • Applicant must have the ability to perform heavy computer work including both telephone and video conferencing with one-on-one and group structured meetings.
  • Applicant must be available to assist in person with on-campus events and activities in Pittsburgh as needed.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, as well as a good understanding of layout for printed, electronic, and social media, printing, and graphic design
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and collaborate with others
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • High degree of organization
  • Highly collegial, and collaborative approach to meet the needs and deadlines of partners across the University including at regional campuses, provost schools and with various departments in PAE such as Alumni Relations and Alumni Annual Giving.
  • A desire to be creative and a willingness to be adaptable and flexible
  • Commitment and desire to do work that makes a positive impact locally, nationally and globally

Physical Effort

Primarily sedentary tasks.

Occasionally required to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
