Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow for the Department of Health Behavior, Society and Policy. We seek exceptional candidates to collaborate on quantitative research projects related to the social determinants of health. The Post Doctoral Fellow will have the opportunity to join a growing research team with a strong publication and funding track record. For this position, the candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Mark McGovern on the impact of economic and health policies on population health. Ongoing research that the candidate will be invited to collaborate on includes projects in health economics, the impact of inequality on life course outcomes, and maternal and child health. The postdoc will lead data management and analysis of large, complex, and longitudinal datasets, as well as the application of quasi-experimental and causal inference methods. The postdoc will also be encouraged to develop their own independent research program.There will be opportunities for authorship on publications, presentation at local and national conferences, teaching, and collaboration on grant proposal development. The position has an expected start date of August 1, 2024; however, the start date is flexible. Initial term of appointment is two years.Duties include:
  • Manage databases, develop analytical plans, and carry out statistical analysis for manuscripts, reports and presentations using Stata (preferred) or R.
  • Lead, draft, and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Give oral presentations to disseminate research findings.
  • Contribute to grant applications based on the research conducted, as applicable.
  • Collaborate on and support analyses and manuscripts being led by other members of the research group

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Doctorate or terminal degree (e.g., PhD, ScD) in a quantitative field relevant to population health, including but not limited to Economics, Demography, Health Policy, Biostatistics, Statistics, Health Services Research.
  • Candidates with all but degree will be considered.
  • Knowledge of, and interest in, literature on the social determinants of health.
  • Excellent data management and analysis skills.
  • Experience with quasi-experimental and causal inference methods.
  • Advanced proficiency in Stata (preferred) or R, and ability to work with large complex data sets.
  • Ability to efficiently prioritize and execute projects independently and efficiently, with attention to detail.
  • Track record of first authored peer-reviewed publications (as appropriate for level of experience and field of study).
