We are seeking talented and motivated Senior Engineer to join our team to play a key role in leading application support and runtime operations for a suite of applications aligned to the customer experiences. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical and leadership experience with a passion for the reliability and performance of critical business applications, and growing talent. Candidate is responsible to play a key role in leading the technical consultation and strategic recommendations to quickly assess and remediate complex platform availability issues. How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Strong understanding of software development, application support, and understanding of Site Reliability Engineering and have a passion for Reliability.

  • Proficient in Runtime engineering tactics including usage of monitoring tools, effective log analysis, and performance optimization, includes, optimize Runtime Engineering by reducing chronic systems failures. Reduce toil through automation and code fixes.

  • Experience with a variety of software languages, and and hands on experience using automation tools and technologies

  • Achieve world class Production Management by improving Mean to Restore for Incident Management, exceed Service Level and Availability targets. Commitment to maintaining high system availability and performance.

  • Lead the recovery and restoration of major system impacts; ability to debug software components and identify code defects for remediation. Dedication to minimizing downtime and ensuring a seamless customer experience with strong leadership presence and communications.

  • Problem-Solving Mindset with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues. Analytical thinking and hands on experience with root cause analysis.

  • Drive gaps in logging, monitoring, resiliency, capacity, self-healing and availability for critical applications and Customer Journeys.

  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

  • Ensure deployments are automatically tested pre and post validation production; participate in code reviews and automated testing.

  • Lead and drive adherence to building software the Amex Way through consistent and standard practices (tools, common components, and documentation)

  • Validate applications have the ability dynamically scale demand and capacity projections

Responsibilities Include:

  • Apply domain knowledge to identify complex issues, restore service, complete root cause analysis, and drive permanent resolution of the problem.

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to define solutions, technical implementation to drive software maturity and practices.

  • Drive the technical roadmap for runtime engineering, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of platforms in partnership with product and engineering teams. This includes infrastructure resiliency, security, capacity, availability and Observability and Monitoring tools.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for runtime and resiliency and drive continuous improvement efforts to meet or exceed these metrics.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the team, fostering a culture of inclusivity, innovation, collaboration, and accountability.

  • Act as a technical leader by participating in architecture design, code reviews, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.

  • Performing direct software development, typically spending 50-60% of time actually writing code and unit tests, doing proof of concepts, Participate in code reviews.

  • Develop common framework components (to be leveraged by enterprise applications), define standards for configuration, monitoring, reliability, and performance engineering.

  • Developing deep understanding of integrations with other systems and platforms within the supported domains and lead other engineers along the journey.

  • Strong technical and leadership mentoring

  • Work closely with Product Managers and Product Owners to implement versatile solutions to complex development problems

  • Drive automation and ensure automated test scripts are completed for new features with latest trend tools and skillsets.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, other technical discipline, or equivalent 8 years of progressive work experience that includes full stack development of programming languages experience.

  • 5 years’ experience working in JavaScript and Java and able to demonstrate strong Java/Kotlin/Go knowledge

  • 5 years' experience in writing java applications and building and consuming REST APIs

  • Firsthand experience with frameworks - Spring Boot, Vertex, NodeJS, React

  • Practical experience on implementation various system integration solutions, such as, APIs and Data integration layers (Batch & Real-Time) like Kafka, Solace.

  • Experience in design and developing mission critical highly available enterprise applications and Java applications performance tuning

  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery environment and platforms, especially GIT, Maven, and Jenkins

  • 5 years’ working in Software Development practices, Agile/SCRUM, SAFe Agile, Pair Programming with Test Driven Development Approach.

  • Proven experience building scalable, reliable, and scalable applications.

  • Effective communication skills - able to explain concepts to product managers and business partners in ways that are meaningful to them.

  • Firsthand experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as DB2, Redis, SQL, Postgres, Couchbase, Cassandra etc.

  • Experience with TDD, BDD and unit testing.

  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) environment and their frameworks, Github, Jenkins, Build and Deployment pipelines

  • Working in an Agile or SAFe development environment is a plus

  • Hands on experience of using UI Visualization library

  • Research latest technology, concepts, conceptualize solution and develop proof of concept that will improve resiliency and performance of the applications

  • Design and implement innovative solution/framework that will improve software engineering velocity, infrastructure resiliency and security, and data availability

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well in a diverse team-focused environment

Qualifications

Salary Range: $110,000.00 to $190,000.00 annually bonus benefits
