Responsibilities

The practice of radiation therapy is performed by health care professionals responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for the purpose of treating disease, primarily cancer. This position is responsible for assisting in localizing tumors, participates in treatment planning, proficiency in many modalities, simulation, on -call status, and delivering high doses of ionizing radiation treatment to patients in accordance with prescription and instructions from Radiation Oncologists under direction of the Manager of Radiation Oncology.

  • Selects the most appropriate and efficient action plan after reviewing all pertinent data and assessing the patient's abilities and condition.

  • Determines the need for and selects supplies, accessory equipment, shielding, positioning and immobilization devices.

  • Verifies patient identification and the procedure requested or prescribed.

  • Reviews all available patient medical record information to verify the appropriateness of the procedure requested or prescribed.

  • Assesses factors that may negatively affect the procedure, such as medications, patient history, insufficient patient preparation or artifact producing objects.

  • Recognizes signs and symptoms of an emergency.

  • Explains to the patient each step of the action plan as it occurs and elicits the cooperation of the patient.

  • Calculates monitor units utilizing Rad Calc for simple emergent simulations.

  • Verifies consent, insurance authorization and orders prior to simulation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM

Successful completion of an accredited education program in radiation therapy.

Minimum 18 months experience as a radiation therapist in a radiation oncology clinic.

Certificate in Radiation Therapy and Associates of Applied Science in Radiography required.

Registered as a Radiation Therapist, RT(T), by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (CT ARRT)

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CT PRBLS)

Licensed as a Certified Therapy Technologist (CTT) by the Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Special Licensing (LIC CTT).

PREFERRED

Associates of Applied Science in Radiation Therapy preferred.

24 months experience as a radiation therapist in a radiation oncology clinic.

Pay Range

$48.05-$48.05 /hour
