Confidential Employer Assistant Teacher/Assistant Group Supervisor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Purpose: To team with Lead Teacher when administering education programs as developed by GBCCC to children enrolled. Responsible to interface with parents of the children enrolled in his/her classroom. To assist children to reach their potential and prepare them for future educational experiences.
Qualifications:
Completion of high school degree with a minimum of 2 years experience in childcare
and
Completion of a CDA certificate or associate degree in early childhood education program from an accredited college or university
This position description must be used in conjunction with the PA Code, Title 55, DHS, Chapter 3270 paragraph 3270.35, Group Supervisor qualifications and responsibilities.
Reporting Relationship: Mentor Teacher and Director
The responsibilities of the position are detailed below:
Educational Program Management:
- Develop meaningful relationships with all children and their families in your classroom.
- Team effectively with Lead Teacher in all aspects of the job through active communication, planning and evaluation.
- Responsible for the supervision of children always and assist in planning of classroom educational programming with Lead Teacher.
- Responsible for daily and weekly paperwork such as daily attendance, meal counts, weekly supply order, weekly cleaning schedule, weekly food slip for Kitchen Staff.
- Responsible for taking observational records on children assigned to your care group. These daily observational records should be aligned with weekly standards on lesson plans developed by Lead Teacher.
- Responsible for digital journaling with families in your care group daily for infants/toddlers and preschoolers.
- Assists the Lead Teacher in maintaining a classroom that is organized, clean and attractive. This can include weekly updates to classroom parent bulletin board and decorating the classroom.
- Ensure that all GBCCC program philosophies/policies are implemented in all aspects of the program including policies outlined in the staff and parent handbooks.
- Implements all safety and health procedures as delineated in the GBCCC Safety and Health Manual including hand washing and diaper changing procedures.
- In the absence of a Lead Teacher must perform all duties required by Lead Teacher including but not limited to lesson planning, GOLD online assessment updating and holding parent/teacher conferences.
- Complete required Health and Safety training required by DHS.
- Maintain up to date clearances for Child Abuse, PA Criminal Background, and FBI due every 5 years.
Required to attend 12 hours of training in early childhood education.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITON:
The position of Assistant Teacher/ Assistant Group Supervisor in the childcare center requires the individual to participate in physical activities that are a condition of employment. The actual physical activities of the position are too numerous to list but would generally include and are not limited to the following:
The ability to lift 50lbs. always during your employment with GBCCC.
Requires participation in outdoor activities are prescribed the PA Department of Human Services Rules and Regulation for Child Care Centers and the Regulations for Private Kindergarten Programs as detailed by the PA Department of Education.
An acknowledgement of the essential physical functions of this position will be required to be executed and will remain in the employee's personnel file
HEALTH AND SAFETY DURING EMPLOYMENT:
An offer of employment and continued employment with GBCCC is conditional on a satisfactory Staff Health Appraisa , required at a minimum once every two years.
Employment will require adherence to GBCCC infection control policies based on the concept of Universal Precautions. Universal Precautions require that you consider every person, all blood and most body fluids to be potential carriers of infectious disease. The policy of adherence to the concept of Universal Precautions will be strictly enforced by GBCCC. Disciplinary Action will be taken whenever the infection control policy is are breached.
All staff will be required to complete annual Child Abuse training since we are mandated reporters.
The position of Assistant Teacher/ Assistant Group Supervisor will be required to participate in a yearly fire safety training program conducted by a fire protection professional. Documentation of fire safety training is required.
The position of Teacher/Group Supervisor will be required to participate in pediatric first aid training conducted by a professional in the field on or before expiration of certification of training or every 2 years, as applicable. Documentation of first aid training is required.
Maintaining clearances for Child Abuse, PA Criminal Background and FBI clearance every 5 years. Physicals are required to be updated every 2 years.
