Expected Length of Internship: Summer semester (2 months) As an internship company, we allow flexibility to enroll in classes while working as an intern, as long as it doesn't interfere with the essential functions of the position. Experience: Basic electrical engineering classroom lab work or at least 1 yr of experience in the electrical field is required. The candidate should be familiar with electronics and/or electrical measurement equipment Safety training (i.e. NFPA70, OSHA) is a plus Education: Someone working towards an electrical engineering degree. First Solar encourages all interns to register their internship with their university. Required Skills/Competencies: Must have basic understanding of how solar panels operate and how AC/DC electricity works. Knowledge of Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) Basic experience using electrical test and measurement equipment (i.e. DMM, clamp-on current meters, IR camera, power supplies, etc.) Basic ability using tools and operating equipment required. Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards. Must have the ability to follow directions and use work instructions. Must be motivated to work independently. Must be able to work outdoors. Must be able to demonstrate problem solving ability. Basic machine shop skills a plus. Must be organized and keep a clean and orderly work area at all times. Basic experience using electrical test and measurement equipment. Proven communications skills and attention to detail. Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, SQL is a plus). Good team player. Possess basic knowledge of databases and data processing (JMP and SQL experience desirable). Able to work independently with minimal supervision, pay attention to detail and be results oriented. Consistently demonstrates efficient and effective methods to deliver quality test results. Basic Internship Scope (Project): The intern will be expected to calibrate instrumentation that is part of a Data Acquisition System (i.e. ADAM 4117/4118, voltage transducers, etc). Inspection of combiner boxes with an IR camera to determine if there are any hot spots due to loose connections Work with team to remove and test solar panels from the field. Testing in the lab will consist of running tests on equipment such as; Solar Simulator, Eletroluminescence (EL) machine, Reflectometer (X/Y mapper), etc. Perform data entry for Reliability testing. Responsible to ensure that all the tests and measurements are complete per the schedule. Responsible to communicate immediately any abnormal findings on the product or testing equipment. Responsible to assist in any other task or job assign by supervisor. Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team. Travel: No travel is required. Estimated Hourly Range: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour US Physical Requirements: Manufacturing & Maintenance
