Job Title: Safety Auditor / Technician (JPL)

Job Summary: EMCOR Government Services, Inc. has an immediate need for a Safety Auditor / Technician in Pasadena, CA. The Safety Auditor / Technician supports the EMCOR Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Manager with implementation of EH&S programs, practices, and procedures. This supports includes reducing the frequency and severity of accidental loss in the areas of workers’ compensation, general / auto liability, and property. The Safety Auditor will work with the EH&S Manager to ensure JPL site compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, which are designed to protect the human, financial, and physical assets of the lab.

The JPL facility operates 24/7 365 days a year. The Safety Auditor / Technician will provide safety support during normal business hours. At times, although infrequent, the Safety Auditor / Technician may need to be available during the non-core business hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports EH&S Manager to ensure lab compliance with federal, state, and local safety-related regulations, in addition to environmental health, safety, and loss prevention standards and guidelines.

  • Supports EH&S Manager with conducting investigations and evaluates risk management information to identify significant hazards and loss trends; identifies and recommends preventive measures and corrective actions.

  • Supports EH&S Manager with regulating asbestos, lead, confined space, and LOTO programs.

  • Performs and manages safety training programs for EMCOR and subcontractor employees.

  • Performs regular physical inspections of grounds, buildings, equipment, and operations; identifies hazards and incidents of regulatory non-compliance and recommends corrective measures.

  • Performs safety audits of maintenance records to assure compliance; provides direction on language required for PM’s and work orders as needed.

  • Supports EH&S Manager with monitoring and managing safety aspects for EMCOR subcontractors.

  • When assigned investigates mishaps, records, and manages documents.

  • Effectively applies and supports all EMCOR Safety and Environmental methodologies to meet all required EH&S standards.

  • Backs-up the EH&S Manager with preparation of all safety slides for weekly Maintenance and Operations Reviews.

  • Supports EMCOR Technicians and sub-tier contractors by minimizing our EH&S exposure and risk.

  • Facilitates team and customer meetings effectively.

  • Keeps team well informed of changes within the organization.

  • Liaison to JPL OSPO within areas of responsibility.

  • Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors.

  • Resolves and / or escalates issues in a timely fashion.

  • Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully.

  • Effectively conveys our message in both written and verbal discussions.

  • Keeps track of lessons learned and shares those lessons with staff.

  • Develops relationships with customers.

  • Continually seeks opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen customer relationships.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in physical or life science field

  • 5+ years of experience

  • Certified Safety Professional (Registered Safety Admin. / Certified Safety Supervisor)

  • Certified as CPR Instructor

  • Understanding of Cal-OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local loss prevention regulations

  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Interpersonal/human relations skills

  • Planning/organizational skills

  • Ability to design, implement, and control a safety program

  • Ability to conduct safety inspections of lab buildings and equipment

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Must be willing to submit to a drug screen/background check

Compensation Range: $80,000 - $90,000
