Actalent Estimator in Palm Harbor, Florida
Job Description
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in estimating, construction project management, in both residential and light commercial construction.
Create comprehensive cost estimates for a wide variety of construction projects.
Survey potential sites for suitability and associated cost.
Verify vendor and subcontractor estimates fall within the defined scope.
Create estimates for all necessary insurance considerations.
Maintain client confidentiality.
Developing estimates and bids for both residential & commercial construction projects
Completing take-offs to gather information for bids
Ensure timely completion of estimates.
Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price.
Read and interpret plans and specifications.
Identify plan discrepancies and scheduling contingencies.
Identify opportunities for value engineering.
Define and develop scopes of work.
Develop and maintain bid list and relationships with local subcontractors.
Obtain bids from subcontractors.
Negotiate with subcontractors and vendors.
Assist with construction timelines and scheduling parameters.
Prepare accurate and comprehensive conceptual budgets and job cost proposals, including GMP, lump sum and design-build bids.
Prepare client bid packages.
Estimating software including Microsoft, Excel, PlanSwift, ProCore or similar preferred.
Qualifications
Minimum five years of construction estimating in either residential or commercial construction.
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred, but not required.
Prior experience as a commercial door and hardware estimator.
Proficiency with cost estimating and project management software.
Familiarity with construction practices, costs codes and procedures.
Experience with vendor management, procurement, and construction management
Ability to perform quantity take-offs, obtain pricing from vendors, negotiate pricing, and complete bid proposals.
Knowledgeable in all phases of construction, doors and hardware strongly preferred.
Ability to organize and assemble hard bid estimates as well as conceptual,
preliminary or budgetary estimates.
Able to understand, create and negotiate subcontracts and purchase orders.
Familiar with commercial projects and residential projects a plus.
Contacts subcontractors and vendors attaining estimates for all necessary scopes.
Able to communicate, organize and meet timelines.
Works with estimating software including Microsoft, Excel, PlanSwift or similar preferred.

- Office based position with a small regional construction contractor specializing in high-end residential and light commercial construction.
