Responsible for developing and executing an annual sales plan for capital equipment in the assigned geographic territory in cooperation with the Industry Market Sales Manager.

Responsible for meeting or exceeding a sales budget for capital equipment in the specified geographic region. Required to interact and coordinate with Technical Support Engineers and Territory Sales Managers, as well as Engineering, Manufacturing and Customer Service personnel.

Additional activities may include but are not limited to establishing a strong business relationship with end-users, assisting end-users with bioprocess applications development, defining project scope and specifying process skid systems, scoped project execution, processing product repairs and troubleshooting existing system installations for the biopharmaceutical industry. In addition, this person will coordinate the resolution of technical issues with internal and external customers.

  • Develop and execute an annual sales plan for capital equipment.

  • Provide sales management with a monthly forecast of capital equipment sales and a project opportunity list.

  • Specify proper biopharmaceutical capital equipment and consumable products for customer applications in response to direct customer contact or indirect customer contact with a territory manager, customer service representative or supervisor. In addition, develops technical proposals to facilitate the sale of capital equipment.

  • Must possess sound understanding of the biological manufacturing process and the ability to specify products to maintain and increase revenue by prioritizing the opportunities on an account-by-account basis to obtain optimum sales and margin results.

  • Coordinate with Engineering and Manufacturing Departments to deliver internal and external customer focused deliverables.

Interface with Engineering and Manufacturing Departments on matters regarding product performance, product design and product quality. Participates regularly in Voice of Customer activities to present evolving customer requirements and provide input in new product design and sustainable improvements to Engineering and Manufacturing Departments.

Interface with Service Department to authorize warranty repairs, solicit customer purchase orders for non-warranty repairs and inform customers of installation issues that need to be rectified for proper operations of the product.

  • Assists customers with bioprocess applications troubleshooting and/or nonperforming systems installations.

  • Accelerates the introduction of new products and technology to the market place.

  • Supports Customer Service Department in technical matters beyond the scope of the customer service representative’s function.

  • Assists in the training of new territory managers, customer service representatives and applications engineers.

  • Assist with preparation of validation documentation and factory validation of equipment. Participate in customer facing factory acceptance testing of equipment. Participates and coordinates the installation, startup and training of equipment operators.

  • Documents customer interactions through reports and summaries in customer database.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a science or engineering discipline.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering discipline or process development environment in the biopharmaceutical industry. Technical aptitude and experience in biopharmaceutical process development, manufacturing, validation and automation. Versed in cGMP and GAMP requirements.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sales preferred, or field technical support, in a related biopharmaceutical market, preferably with experience in capital equipment. Sound opportunity management skills with the ability to work with various functional support groups including. Territory Managers, Technical Service Engineers, and Laboratory personnel. Ability to influence the decision-making and problem-solving processes at biopharmaceutical customers.

  • This is a field-based position that requires up to 50-60% travel for end-user visits, training and personal development opportunities. Domestic and foreign travel as required.

Previous experience with single-use technologies is preferred.

  • Must possess strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills (written and oral).

  • Good telephone and email manners.

  • Ability to read and create technical drawings (intermediate skill level).

  • Ability to develop solutions to customer problems and translate the solutions into business development strategies and products.
