Job Description Summary

The Assistant Dean of Students serves in a key leadership role in the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) by focusing most of their attention on supporting the needs of students who live off-campus. The Assistant Dean of Students will support students facing various challenges, including mental health issues, academic difficulties, and adjustment problems. They also advise faculty and staff on student success concerns, represent the office at campus events, and serve on-call duty. They coordinate all aspects of alternative dispute resolution; including student-related bias incident reports and student-involved interpersonal conflict (and others). This includes maintaining sound policies and practices that are compliant with relevant laws and guidance documents and informing senior administration of critical incidents. The Assistant Dean of Students creates and coordinates all ODOS outreach and programming efforts designed to enhance the awareness of the ODOS and ODOS resources.

 

 

Job Description

Essential Duties

  • Provide non-clinical case management services for all students with a focus on off-campus students (e.g. those living in the local community and commuter students) addressing a range of student concerns, personal and academic. Be visible on campus and in the local community, and build relationships with students and student organizations.

  • Maintain proper student notes and records using Maxient. 

  • Serve as a member of the CARE Team (Student of Concern Response Team) when appropriate. 

  • Lead, plan, and implement ODOS outreach activities and programming for students, with an emphasis on the needs of off-campus students. 

  • Coordinate all programs and initiatives related to enhancing the mission of the ODOS. 

  • Collaborate with the Office of Transformational and Institutional Excellence (OTIE) and the Office of Community Standards to develop, coordinate, and facilitate all aspects of an alternative dispute resolution student-facing program at Miami University for student-related bias incident reports and student-involved interpersonal conflict. This includes program promotion, training, and assessment. 

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with on and off-campus stakeholders. 

  • Serve in an on-call duty rotation for crisis response. 

  • Regularly hold student office hours/drop-in hours across campus. 

  • Contribute data and descriptive program information for the Office of the DOS's annual report and other assessments as required. 

  • Serve on divisional and institutional committees as assigned by the AVP/DOS. 

  • Represent the ODOS at various evening/weekend events throughout the academic year.

  • Lead the marketing and branding efforts for ODOS. 

  • Other duties as assigned.
