Network Engineer II – Service Desk Team

The Network Engineer II is primarily responsible for working on a team at the Red River Service Desk. This position will handle technical support requests directly from customers and escalation from other team members and field engineers. Our engineers are responsible for maintaining user uptime and improving their experiences through effective maintenance, problem identification and resolution activities, as well as growing and developing the organization’s perception with existing customers through exceptional customer service. Candidates must be energetic and focused with a strong motivation to learn new technologies and management and maintenance processes. This position requires dedication, persistence, effective utilization of provided resources and the ability to deliver superior customer service. This position will report to a Team Leader.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handle tickets reported by users

  • Monitor network equipment such as firewalls, routers, switches, WLAN Controllers, WAPs, and FMCs.

  • Supporting and troubleshooting Cisco routing and switching equipment as well as ASAs and other components of LAN and WAN networks

  • Comfortable with troubleshooting and managing multivendor firewalls (ASA, FTD, Meraki, Palo Alto, SonicWALL)

  • Responsible for maintaining and upgrading network infrastructure

  • Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor

  • Ensure network security by maintaining proper network access control, evaluation; maintaining documentation

  • Work with monitoring tools to diagnose via logs and investigate failures or errors in network traffic as well as other issues within the NOC

  • Perform network appliance updates/patching

  • Evaluate environment for process improvement and make recommendations

  • Work with monitoring tools to diagnose via logs and investigate failures or errors in the Network environment.

  • Collaborate and communicate with other team members to provide good service and issue resolution

  • Escalating problems to vendors

Additional Posting Specific Responsibilities :

  • The Dedicated Engineer supports the efforts of the WAN Manager as needed and serves as the primary point of escalation for the remote Service Desk and NOC. Below are common tasks and roles performed by this full-time, dedicated resource.

  • Assist the WAN manager and the clientadmin in supporting a multi-site enterprise network throughout the client facilities, OPCs, CBOCs, and annexes. This includes all locations throughout Florida, Southern Georgia, and the Caribbean (remote only).

  • Regular Travel should be expected to service sites through Florida and Southern Georgia

  • Assist in integration of all infrastructure components to provide a fully functioning VGIA system throughout all client sites across the WAN. Specifically working with the WAN manager and the client admin in upgrading and maintaining hardware such as switches, routers, access points, fiber modules and cabling

  • Assist the WAN manager who is the admin of all physical server systems and virtual servers related to client WAN administration. This would include authorized administration account creation and tracking, workstation and thin client image tracking, Remote Desktop Services, DNS services, DHCP services, IP schema tracking, network security, antivirus/spyware/malware protection, Virtual Server failover protection, physical server failover protection systems for the purpose of ensuring availability of services 24/7, 365 days a year.

  • Troubleshoot malfunctions of network hardware/software applications and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services.

  • Serve as primary point of escalation for remote Service Desk and NOC. Assist NOC with troubleshooting.

  • Perform regular system checks including MIST, Prime, RDP, Site Remote, Server Check, ScienceLogic (now Logic Monitor), UTM.

Minimum Experience and Other Required Experience:

  • At least 3-4 years of Network experience

  • Experience with supporting and troubleshooting of the below technologies: 

  • Firm understanding of TCP/IP. Core networking fundamentals mastery.

  • Basic understanding of routing protocols

  • Basic understanding wireless LAN technologies

  • Intermediate understanding of Cisco ASA, ISR routers, catalyst/nexus switching, and WLAN

  • Basic understanding of various WAN connectivity options and design (Metro-E, MPLS, P2P, SDWAN)

  • Intermediate understanding of IPSEC VPN configurations

  • Experience with Meraki switching, wireless, and security appliance a plus

  • Experience with multi-vendor route, switch, wlan-security preferred

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree desired

  • Required certifications:  CCNA (Routing and Switching or Security)

  • Desired certifications: CCNP

Additionally, an ideal candidate will possess :

  • Strong consulting and communication skills

  • Confidence and experience in front of clients

  • Strong ability to work in a team-based environment

  • Ability to be a self-starter and possessgood time management skills
