Position Announcement
Uta Valley University is seeking an Assistant Director! The purpose of this position is to manage all activities and personnel related to the management and the improvement of the UVU Central Plant with it's accompanying mechanical equipment, systems and Building management systems (BMS).
Summary of Responsibilities
• Support the department's day-to-day operations, overseeing and supporting projects, environmental control operations, and troubleshooting for HVAC and BMS associated equipment.
• Foster a continuous improvement culture through employee selection, training, and mentoring while focusing on operational excellence methods and tools to improve the department's overall efficiency and eliminate "non-value-added" activities.
• Provide staff supervision, including hiring, training, personnel development and performance reviews, planning, assigning and directing work, addressing, and resolving problems.
• Work and interact effectively with cross-functional teams, including Facilities, Engineering, IT, Faculty, and Staff.
• Ensure project/department milestones are met and adhere to approved budgets, including contracted services. Complies with requirements from OSHA's Safety Program, including Health and Safety requirements.
• Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of experience in a supervisory/management role in a related field such as plant management and quality control.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred or B.S. degree in a Technology related field, with 5+ years of experience in a supervisory/management role.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities
Knowledge
• Must have a thorough understanding of UVU's central plant operations, heat recovery/chiller systems, boilers and various air handling systems.
• Must have a fundamental knowledge of budget and accounting principles.
• Must have a fundamental knowledge of UVU's administrative and procurement practices.
Skills
• Must have a strong understanding of the Schnieder Electric Eco-Struxure and Tridium N4 BMS.
• Must have a working knowledge of multiple BMS communication protocols including BACnet, Lon, and Modbus.
• Must be able to read and understand plumbing, mechanical and electrical diagrams.
• Must be proficient in the use CMMS (Sprocket preferred).
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Abilities
• Must have the ability to plan and organize effectively.
• Must be able to interact effectively with cross functional teams.
• Must be able to organize and prioritize staff and workload to meet productivity demands.
• Must be able to provide technical expertise and industry best practices to the department supporting HVAC design throughout the facility.
