Utah Valley University is seeking an Assistant Coordinator - Writing Center (Writing Fellows).

 

Under the direction of the Writing Center director and coordinator, the Writing Center assistant coordinator for Writing Fellows primarily assists with administration of the Writing Fellows program as well as the daily operations and management of the Writing Center. The Writing Center assistant coordinator for Writing Fellows is also a key member of the leadership team and collaborates on strategic planning, assessment, communication, program and resource development, and education and supervision of the Writing Center staff. Additionally, the assistant coordinator tutors based on program needs.

 

Summary of Responsibilities

 

• Assist with Daily Program Operations and Communication: Works with the writing center staff to ensure Writing Fellows programs and services operate smoothly and stakeholders can access needed resources. Works with the administrative team to ensure quality program management in the Writing Center. Communicates with faculty, coordinator, lead fellows, and fellows about program offerings and updates. Assists with Writing Fellows schedule as needed.

• Program and Resource Development: Works closely with coordinator to assess, analyze, and develop Writing Fellows program and resources. As part of the Writing Center administrative team, ensures data collection, maintenance, and archiving for Writing Fellows programs and resources. Collects and analyzes data for assessment, strategic planning, and reporting as requested for the director or Writing Fellows coordinator.

 

• Tutors: Tutors students within the Writing Center and Writing Fellows program, including the Graduate Writing Center. Mentors tutors and fellows by team tutoring, observing, and offering constructive feedback on tutoring, training, and resource development.

 

• Staff Education and Supervision: Assists with hiring and supervising Writing Center tutors and fellows.

• Participates in professional development to stay current with writing fellows and writing center scholarship. Helps lead staff education and manage staff education resources in Canvas.

 

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Preference given to those who have received CRLA L1+ certification and/or have completed a Writing Center training course with a grade of A- or higher.

• Previous tutoring and/or teaching experience preferred.

• Master's degree or graduate coursework preferred.

 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

 

• Knowledge of tutoring strategies.

• Knowledge of and strong foundation in academic writing.

 

• Skills in interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.

 

• Ability to collaborate with students, faculty/staff, and/or community patrons as stakeholders in the Writing Center.

 

• Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.

 

• Ability to read, write, and be understood in the English language.

• Ability to instruct and motivate students.

 

• Ability to work with diverse individuals.

 

• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
