Position Overview

Kiewit is looking for a Corp. Communication specialist who can help manage and drive our companywide external and digital communication strategies. In this role, you’ll work closely with the Public and Media Relations team and the Digital Marketing and Media team to ensure we’re effectively building and protecting the company’s reputation. This person’s expertise in writing, message development, social media, web content and more will be crucial to the success of this role. A successful candidate must be a capable writer and communicator, fast learner, adept at managing multiple responsibilities at once, and able to work collaboratively with business partners at multiple levels. Experience in employee communication and project management will be an important asset to the candidate. This position demands a person with high attention to detail and time management skills to consistently meet deadlines.

Location

This position is based out of Kiewit's headquarters at 1550 Mike Fahey Street. This is a shared service center in a professional office setting.

Responsibilities

• Help the team manage media and public relations, including supporting key proactive and reactive media opportunities, community relations efforts, new releases, events and other strategic external communications.

• Capably communicate with traditional and non-traditional media, and speak confidently and effectively with clients and other key stakeholders, as needed.

• Support key social media initiatives and content

• Help deliver important website content and messaging AND be part of the team focused on developing and rolling out a new company website.

• Work on strategic communication plans that align with company goals and objectives.

• Support the company’s crisis management needs, including staying on top of key industry and public issues that require communication support.

• Pilot, use and expand the use of AI and other key technology tools to improve how we handle external communications.

• Work with vendors, suppliers and partners to ensure compliance with the Kiewit’s third-party marketing policies.

• Assist with awards and industry ranking lists.

• Help manage how the company uses proprietary communication items (e.g., photos, trademarks, logos) with the external public.

• Have fun with a great team focused on building and protecting the company’s brand.

Qualifications

• Has a bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, public relations, marketing or a related field.

• Has at least 3-4 years of corporate communication, marketing or agency experience.

• Can write very well (and enjoys doing it) – and capably deliver clear, concise messaging.

• Has some experience with digital and social media and – ideally – web content and messaging.

• Thrives and stays organized in a fast-paced environment.

• Works well under pressure when duty calls, including in a crisis situation.

• Thinks quickly and sharply on one’s feet and adapts to rapidly changing situations.

• Is a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Is tactful, diplomatic and has good listening skills.

• Has strong written, oral, presentation and visual communication skills.

• Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to identify positively with people at all levels of Kiewit.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
