Job Description: Senior Network Engineer

Position Title: Senior Network Engineer

Department: Information Technology

Location: on-site

Position Overview: The Senior Network Engineer plays a pivotal role in the design, implementation, and optimization of the organization's network infrastructure. This position demands advanced technical expertise in network architecture, protocols, security, and troubleshooting methodologies. The Senior Network Engineer serves as a technical leader within the IT team, guiding network engineers and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure robust and secure network operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Network Architecture and Design:

  • Design scalable and resilient network architectures to meet current and future business requirements.

  • Evaluate and recommend network technologies and solutions, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs, based on performance, reliability, and security criteria.

  • Develop detailed network design documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and implementation plans.

  • Network Implementation and Optimization:

  • Configure and deploy network devices and services, ensuring adherence to design specifications and security best practices.

  • Optimize network performance through monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning; implement network upgrades and enhancements as needed.

  • Troubleshoot complex network issues across multiple layers (L2-L7), utilizing packet analysis and network diagnostic tools.

  • Network Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain robust network security measures, including access control, segmentation, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and VPNs.

  • Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests; develop and enforce network security policies and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, GDPR) and organizational security requirements.

  • Technical Leadership and Mentorship:

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior network engineers; conduct knowledge-sharing sessions and technical training.

  • Lead network-related projects from conception to completion, ensuring alignment with business goals and objectives.

  • Collaborate with IT leadership and stakeholders to define strategic initiatives and drive technical innovation.

  • Requirements

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in network engineering roles, with a focus on designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-scale networks.

Technical Skills:

  • Expert-level knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.) and network services (DNS, DHCP, SNMP, etc.).

  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, or equivalent network hardware and software platforms.

  • Proficiency in network security technologies and methodologies, including encryption, authentication, and security incident response.
