Town of Ocean City Heavy Equipment Operator-Maintenance in Ocean City, Maryland

SUMMARY

Operates a variety of heavy equipment including preventive maintenance. Daily operation of equipment would include: three-wheel street brooms, specialized trash machines, large farm/beach tractors, beach sanitizer machines, tracked and wheeled skid steer loaders. Occasional equipment can include loaders, excavators, backhoes, tankers, flatbeds, snowplows, dump trucks, etc.

Job Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs maintenance worker duties when not acting as a heavy equipment operator.
  • When not operating equipment, will perform duties as maintenance worker to maintain the cleanliness and functions of the Town streets, beach and boardwalk areas including support of numerous special events.
  • Work includes some lifting of heavy items with and without assistance.
  • Work schedules vary but will include nights, weekends, and holidays during the year.
  • Prior work experience is preferred.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with one (1) year of satisfactory paid employment in the operation of automotive farm equipment or trucks, or equipment used in this position with combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid commercial class B license is required but a Class A license is preferred, must have current DOT physical card and ability to pass all mandated alcohol/drug tests.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to pass a physical examination.
