What’s the role?

The General Manager Operations & Strategy - Enterprise, Publishing, and Newsroom Technology role is responsible for planning and delivering the team's priorities in alignment with business objectives. This involves leading the operational delivery process, fostering innovation, making data-driven decisions, and collaborating with stakeholders to prioritize initiatives and optimize resource allocation and tooling..

The role also includes reviewing and optimizing the team's strategy based on business outcomes, using data insights, and staying current on digital and print media trends.

Additionally, the General Manager manages the planning and preparation for internal showcases and reporting cycles, building strong partnerships with stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.

Responsibilities

  • Drive consistent cross-team and delivery partner use of agile delivery tooling and process ensuring a common view of delivery and operational pipeline activities.

  • Engagement and Partnering with both internal Technology teams and Business stakeholders through the development and nurturing strong partnerships to ensure increased alignment and transparency of priorities

  • Development and refinement of reporting metrics across operations and delivery to clearly demonstrate demand throughput, cadence and velocity (both at an individual and team level)

  • Work with Stakeholders (Intra-delivery team, Strategy, Architecture, Digital Product) to refine processes to support efficiencies in engagement and delivery.

  • Review, optimise, and document team strategies based on the business and consumer outcomes across all ESPO domains. This will include consolation of individual plans and developing central key messaging and communication packs for business playback and alignment.

  • Manage, allocate, and monitor the incoming pre-project estimation workload across the Delivery Management team. At peak times throughout the year hands on pre-project estimation will be required to level team resourcing.

  • Foster a culture of engagement, innovation and continuous improvement within the ESPO team

  • Manage the planning & preparation schedules of the ESPO function for key internal and business facing showcases and reporting cycles

  • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends in digital media and technology, ensuring our product delivery and methodologies remain efficient, competitive and relevant.

Who are you?

  • Strong understanding of the print and digital media landscape.

  • Demonstrated agile methodology experience, with a focus on proven delivery of tooling and process uplift including cross team sprint planning, task estimation methodologies, ceremonies, and metics

  • Excellent strategic thinking, planning, and presentation skills.

  • Experience in developing and executing on platform delivery roadmaps and resource allocations.

  • Data-driven approach to decision-making with a strong analytical mind.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a team.
