Falvey Insurance Group Requirements Engineering Analyst in North Kingstown, Rhode Island

Summary of Position Falvey Insurance Group (FIG) is excited to invite applications for the role of Requirements Engineering Analyst. This pivotal position requires a detail-oriented professional adept at analyzing and documenting software project requirements, ensuring these requirements are effectively translated into actionable tasks for our development team. You will collaborate closely with various members of the Operations team, ensuring a seamless flow of information and supporting the successful execution of projects.

In this dynamic and fast-paced role, you will be responsible for thoroughly understanding and documenting project requirements, working with cross-functional teams, and continuously improving our requirements engineering processes. A key component of your role will involve gaining an in-depth understanding of FIG’s proprietary in-house system, enabling you to provide development teams with a continuous flow of tasks and prevent any delays.   Position Functions The position will also be responsible for: 

  • Requirements Analysis and Documentation: Analyze project requirements and transform them into clear, concise, and actionable tasks for the development team.

  • Task Breakdown and Management: Ensure that tasks are broken down into manageable chunks that can be completed efficiently by the development team.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with the System Solutions department, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure a cohesive approach to project execution and task management.

  • System Understanding: Gain a thorough understanding of FIG's proprietary in-house system to provide effective guidance and task creation for the development team.

  • Process Improvement: Assist in regularly reviewing and refining requirements engineering processes to enhance team efficiency and output quality.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that tasks created meet the necessary standards and comply with project specifications.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge:

  • Understanding of requirements engineering and the software development life cycle.

  • Familiarity with project management tools, principles and methodologies.

  • Knowledge of best practices in task breakdown and allocation for software development teams.

    Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills to understand complex project details and translate them into actionable tasks.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders and team members.

  • Proficiency in creating clear, concise, and manageable tasks for software development teams.

    Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including Operations, System Solutions, developers, and project execution analysts.

  • Capability to implement and optimize processes for task conversion and management.

  • Aptitude for anticipating project needs and ensuring continuous task flow for the development team.

    Preferred but Not Required:

  • Insurance or related industry knowledge.

  • Advanced knowledge in specific project management software and tools.

  • Experience with proprietary systems or similar platforms.

  • Specific knowledge of FIG's proprietary in-house systems and suite of applications

    Minimum Requirements

  • Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in requirements engineering, business analysis, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated ability working within the software development life cycle process.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in requirement analysis and task breakdown for software development.

  • Familiarity with project management principles and methodologies.

  • Experience with Atlassian products like JIRA, BitBucket, Confluence, Tempo, Structure, etc.

  • Experience with SQL databases.

  • Proficiency in source control tools and methodologies.

  • Practical experience with Scrum or other Agile methodologies.

  • Communication Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Preferred Requirements

  • Advanced Educational Background:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Extended Work Experience:

  • Experience in the insurance industry.

  • Experience with proprietary systems or similar platforms.

  • Knowledge and experience in specific project management tools and software.

  • Specialized Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in FIG’s specific proprietary systems or similar technologies.

  • Experience with NoSQL databases.

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to sit and work quietly, operate a computer, and communicate on a telephone. Must be able to lift computers, printers, boxes, and monitors - not more than 50 pounds. 

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    No Working Conditions Business-casual fast-paced multi-tasking office environment   Hours of Operation:  This position's work hours are Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm, in a hybrid work environment.  Our hybrid environment is three days within our business-casual office environment.  Of these three days in the office, Wednesday and Thursday are required.  The other days are work from home, and our employees choose their other day to be in the office.  This position will require occasional weekend work and after-hours follow-up to ensure that all team members can access and utilize systems.
