Within our Automation Engineering group in Medtronic, PLC, we focus on the transformation of our manufacturing processes through the implementation of best-in-class automated equipment.

Our Automation Engineers lead the development of highly complex automated equipment for use in the manufacture of medical devices and also influence automation projects globally by defining automation standards and contributing to our Automation Community of Practice and Automation Center of Excellence.

A Day in the Life

As a Senior Project Engineer Automation, you will actively participate in all areas of new equipment development including the following: Initial Feasibility, Proof of Concept, Proof of Principle, Procurement, Mechanical/Electrical/Pneumatic/Software Design, Technology development & advancement, Vendor management & Project management.

  • You will guide multiple teams to follow a “standard” Medtronic process for all deliverables required to meet business, technical and quality requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

  • You will lead and support teams driving technology process innovation with emphasis on improving quality, reducing cost, improving reliability, and developing state of the art automated and semi-automated systems.

  • You will use your skills to align internal Medtronic teams with the skills of our preferred suppliers to partner with the best solution for Medtronic capital deployment.

  • You will be responsible for tracking project milestones, payment terms to milestones, invoicing accuracy and forecasting latest estimates of financials.

  • You will collaborate with cross functional & cross site teams to define, execute, and deliver on new equipment development requirements.

  • You will partner with capital commodity management and be responsible to share details of your project status and performance metrics.

  • You will participate in our Automation Community of Practice to share best practice and create new knowledge to advance the Automation community in Medtronic.

  • You will support the development of Automation standards in Medtronic globally.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Provide leadership and direction for sourcing of engineered-to-order automation equipment.

  • Lead & execute RFP activity for competitive bidding process for automation projects.

  • Follow process for preferred suppliers, quoting and supplier selection.

  • Champion utilization of reference documents and established tools: Preferred Suppliers file, Supplier Selection Scorecard, and Project Performance scorecard.

  • Align on supplier selection that will result in quotes that are clear and concise to minimize change-orders.

  • Align project teams with the quoting process and setting expectations with supply base on timing of quote delivery.

  • Draft contracts in Ariba and facilitate signature process to fully executed status.

  • Collaborate with project teams to move with speed through ‘Ideation to PO’ process.

  • Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders: Operations, Engineering, Project Leaders, Project Managers, Category Managers.

  • Communicate and coordinate Sourcing & general project activities with multiple stakeholders within and outside of Medtronic.

  • Garner trust that team will follow policy and work independently for capital spending.

  • Travel to suppliers as required.

  • Demonstrated experience of working in a multi-discipline role from technical expertise to training and information dissemination amongst team members and management.

  • Dynamic team player and can work effectively and proactively on cross-functional and cross site teams.

  • You are an experienced project manager with a proven track record in delivering innovative equipment design, on time and on budget.

  • You are an excellent problem solver who can translate complexity into simplicity and articulate crisply and clearly.

  • Create and communicate clear strategy/plan. Demonstrate good judgement.

  • You are someone who loves how and why things work, and you bring this passion to work with you.

  • You are a good communicator and fluent in English, both in writing and speaking.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Qualified person must have a bachelor’s or master's degree in engineering/Science or a related discipline.

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered is compliant with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
