Light Industrial - Destruction Technician

*Position: Destruction Technician 1*

*Shift: Other (05:30 PM - 02:00 AM), Day (08:00 AM - 06:00 PM) $24.10*

*Schedule: 5 days a week, 9 hours a day including a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks.*

*Job Summary:*

Responsible for the processing and destruction of all material delivered to the shred plant. Job activities include sorting and shredding material by grade, complying with the standards of the 5S Workplace Program to promote consistency with tasks, workplace layouts, and workflow. Compliance with all safety and security policies, proper handling of equipment, and protection of customer information are essential. Candidates must demonstrate behaviors consistent with our core values.

*Key Responsibilities:*

*A. Secure Shredding (95% of time spent)*

- Empty collected material from containers (cutting bags, dumping gaylords, etc.).

- Manually dump boxes from pallets.

- Sort material by grade, separating and discarding identified contaminants.

- Perform authorized repairs and maintenance tasks on equipment as needed to ensure safety and operational readiness.

- Load and unload vehicles, verifying accuracy of deliveries and pickups.

- Maintain chain of custody and strict control over incoming and outgoing customer material.

- Identify and recommend changes to Plant Manager and/or Destruction Supervisor.

- Notify Plant Manager or Destruction Supervisor immediately when equipment is not operational or there are safety and security concerns.

- Communicate obstacles in workplace layout to Plant Manager or Destruction Supervisor in accordance with the 5S Workplace Program.

- Assist with training new staff as needed.

- Learn and comply with all OSHA requirements and safety and security procedures, including wearing required uniform and PPEs.

*B. Administrative/Other (5% of time spent)*

- Perform other duties as assigned by Destruction Supervisor or Plant Manager.

*Business Expertise/Functional Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:*

- High School Diploma or equivalent experience in an Operations / Production / Manufacturing environment.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside of the company.

- Ability to work in a team environment as well as individually.

- Professional manner in dealing with others to maintain constructive working relationships.

*Job / Physical Requirements/Qualifications:*

*A. Physical Requirements:*

- Manufacturing type environment at times requiring dust masks and/or earplugs.

- Ability to pick up heavy material (70lbs to 100lbs) and/or push as much as 300lbs wheeled containers.

- Ability to operate PIT (and other equipment) as licensed.

- Work gloves required when handling and sorting materials for destruction.

- Safety glasses required.

- Protective footwear required, meeting ASTM F2413-11 “Standard Specification for Performance Requirements for Protective (Safety) Toe Cap Footwear” and having a slip-resistant rating designated as “Better or Best”.

- Temperatures on production floor can sometimes be equivalent to external temperatures.

*B. Travel Requirements:*

- Less than 10% in district as needed.

*C. Utilization of Time and Equipment:*

- 95%: Lifting, moving, pushing, and pulling equipment.

- 5%: Laptop/desktop computer, telephone.

- *Does the position require the worker to be a US Person to meet ITAR regulations?: Yes*

- *Class B License required.*

- *Must have own safety shoes.*
