Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, and other Engineers across the company to ensure the success of ongoing and future development projects. Work across the stack to build a reliable, performant, and scalable system. Assist with bug fixing. Participate in quarterly on call rotation. Help contribute to making the local development environment more productive. Review pull requests regularly to keep coding standards high and unblock engineers. Review existing and produce new ERD’s in order to communicate implementation proposals for new features and builds. Extensively harness the technology stack used at Better including front end, backend, and infrastructure technology to meet high quality standards and service level agreements. Help to mentor and train junior engineers. Participate in weekly meetings and online slack discussions. Possibility for involvement in engineering recruiting efforts in a software engineering capacity.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSMaster’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Information Science, or related field, and two (2) years of experience in the job offered or in a related software engineering position. Alternatively, employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Information Science, or related field, and five (5) years of experience in the job offered or in a related software engineering position.SKILLS REQUIREMENTSExperience must include two (2) years in the following: 1) Full stack programming in Java, Go, Javascript, Typescript, C# or Python; 2) Writing object oriented and scalable modules, practicing test driven development and making code refactors to improve quality and maintainability; 3) Building performant systems, monitoring for problems and adjusting for scale and refactor as needed; 4) Building and maintaining data in RDBMS systems, NoSQL data stores, queues, and event driven systems; and 5) Working with and mentoring other engineers within a team to help build, test, debug, and solve problems inherent in software development and engineering.Background checks may be required.APPLICANT INSTRUCTIONS:To apply, submit resume by mail to recruitment@better.com.
