The Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health in New York City invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist with interest in cardiovascular epidemiology, lifestyle behaviors and prevention approaches, health equity and healthy longevity. The scientist will join a research team led by Dr. Nour Makarem in the Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University. They will have the opportunity to work on active NIH and American Heart Association funded interdisciplinary projects addressing a range of topics, including cardiovascular health preservation and cardiovascular disease prevention, multidimensional sleep and circadian health promotion, food is medicine approaches, and addressing inequities in multiple cardiometabolic diseases across diverse real-world contexts. They will also work with a collaborative network of distinguished investigators as part of the NIMHD-funded NYC COMMUNITY Center: www.health4allnyc.org.

The incoming Postdoctoral Research Scientist will have opportunities to work on secondary data analysis of population- and community-based cohort studies, contextual behavioral interventions, and efficacy-implementation or effectiveness-implementation trials. Numerous training and career development activities are available through the Columbia University Irving Medical Center's CTSA and the NIMHD-funded Health Equity Action Network's COMMUNITY Center for addressing inequities in multiple chronic conditions. They will have opportunities to contribute to ongoing research activities, continue any prior research that they may bring with them, generate new research that can spring from the work of the Columbia faculty, and generate completely new lines of research.

The Postdoctoral Research Scientist is expected to increase their methodological and substantive knowledge of one or more of the aforementioned areas, build skills for developing and implementing research studies, and have opportunities to lead and/or co-author manuscript publications. They will perform population health research activities, including working with cohort data and performing statistical analyses, developing and implementing research protocols, designing and conducting studies, preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, delivering presentations at scientific meetings, assisting in the development of grant proposals, and providing other research and methodological support for existing and ongoing studies. Opportunities to develop funding proposals for pilot and ancillary studies within larger ongoing studies and to work with both quantitative and qualitative data are available. Biospecimens are also available for subsets of these studies.

The position offers up to two years of postdoctoral fellowship with compensation commensurate with experience, an excellent benefits package, and funds for travel to professional conferences, workshops, and other career development activities. Essential Functions

Writing manuscripts: 20%

Assisting with grant proposals and developing grant applications: 20%

Review and provide a summary of relevant scientific literature: 5%

Minimum Qualifications:

* PhD, ScD, or equivalent degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Sociomedical Sciences, Population Health, Behavioral Science or related disciplines

* Strong analytical skills

* Evidence of publication in peer-reviewed journals

* Proficiency in at least one programing language (e.g., SAS, R)

Additional Qualifications:

Experience with quantitative data management and analysis

The ability to work with a large team of investigators and collaborators

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Detail-oriented

High-level of interpersonal and organizational skills
