The Economist Performance Marketing Director in New York, New York
Introduction
The Economist is seeking a rockstar Director of Performance Marketing with deep hands-on expertise in paid search and paid social. This newly-created role will lead a growing team of channel marketing experts who are responsible for ambitious acquisition targets across The Economist Group.
They should have an obsessive attention to detail, can excel at setting strategy, mentoring a team, but also loves rolling up their sleeves and getting the job done. They aren’t afraid to set a high bar for themselves and their team.
The expected base salary for this position ranges from $90,000.00 - $140,000.00. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Rather, salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered.
Accountabilities
Key Responsibilities:
Directly oversee the management of biddable media campaigns and ad accounts across multiple platforms, including but not limited to Google Ads, Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Outbrain and Display Networks
Lead and mentor a team of in-house media buyers, providing in-platform strategic guidance and support in campaign planning, execution, and optimizations
Drive increased ROI and maximise budget efficiency and ROAS
Monitor campaign performance metrics closely, identify trends and insights, and make data-driven recommendations for optimization and improvement
Develop and implement innovative performance marketing strategies tailored to meet the objectives and KPIs of the business, ensuring platforms performance aligns with growth expectations, delivering measurable results
Conduct comprehensive analysis of campaign performance, generate detailed reports, and present findings and insights
Utilize analytics tools and methodologies to derive actionable insights and drive continuous improvement in campaign performance

Qualifications and Experience
Extensive experience in performance marketing
Experience in in-house biddable media buying (Google / Meta / LinkedIn / TikTok / Outbrain / other)
Proven track record of creating, planning, and executing customer acquisition campaigns that drive transformative business results
Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring teams of digital marketing professionals
Deep understanding of digital advertising platforms such as Google Ads, Google SA360, Google DV360, Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, and other Display Demand Side Platforms.
Exceptional analytical skills and ability to translate data into actionable insights and recommendations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and internal teams.
Results-oriented, with a passion for driving performance
Experience transitioning media buying to an in-house buying model is a preference
