POSITION DETAILS
The Financial Aid Loans Specialist will report to Associate Director of Financial Aid. will work as part of a team of professionals to deliver comprehensive in-person, phone, and electronic financial aid information on grants, loans, applications, work-study, and other related programs and services to current and prospective students, families, and college staff. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Financial Aid Loans Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
• Works with Associate Director and Director to manage the Direct Loan Unit
• Originate loans and monitor their status through disbursement to the student account.
• Review borrowers to ensure compliance with borrowing limit and other federal regulations, adjusting the loan when necessary.
• Oversees application records input and maintenance for the loan program
• Performs application intake, evaluation, processing, awarding and verification of eligibility for federal and state financial aid
• Coordinates consortium agreements such as study abroad.
• Stays current on all regulations, changes and developments which affect student financial aid
• Trains and shares best practices with all staff
• Availability to work evening and weekend hours
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Availability to work occasional evening and weekend hours
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as strong multi-tasking skills
Working knowledge of PeopleSoft (CUNYfirst) and/or other current automated student information/financial aid systems
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Administers all aspects of student loan programs (e.g., Direct, Perkins and Alternative programs)
Verifies and process forms and applications; determines eligibility and award amounts
Advises students, parents, staff and community regarding loan eligibility, rules, and options
Serves as liaison to collection agencies; coordinates default management interventions and processing
Serves as a College resource on loan programs, maintaining up-to-date knowledge and sharing information with colleagues
Represents the office internally and externally on issues related to loan programs
Ensures compliance with University and governmental policies and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience( $68,004 - $86,645.)
