Guardian Life Data Platform Architect in New York, New York

Guardian is seeking a Sr data platform architect to join the team responsible for Data platforms. Working for the Head of Data Platform & capabilities collaborating with the Head of Data Technology organization, the successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating, architecting, building, securing and managing Data Platforms. The candidate will display technical and functional competence in data platforms and uphold Guardian’s commitment to Guardian values.

You will

  • Serve as a collaborative liaison between business partners, Enterprise Business & Technology Services engineering and architecture functions, and Enterprise Service Delivery.

  • Conduct proof-of-concepts and pilots to evaluate technologies and tools while establishing standard design patterns.

  • Work with business and IT collaborators to ensure data architectures address objectives.

  • Responsible for platform automation, security, and governance.

  • Work with solution architects to identify infrastructure needs and provide support to developers and business users.

  • Research performance issues and optimize platform for performance.

  • Design, deploy, configure, and support the operations of our data and analytics platforms, including working with open source and/or commercial stacks to support the full SDLC.

  • Deploy, handle, and maintain development, test, and production environments. Resolve issues in all operational environments.

  • Provide technical training to external team members.

  • Work with a multi-functional agile team delivering incremental software deployments.

  • Serve as a driving force to institute DataOps thinking and processes.

  • Measure and report key performance indicators for the data platform and capabilities services.

You have

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering or related field.

  • 10+ years of IT experience with solid experience on data platform architecture, administration, engineering, security and operational support

  • Modern Data Infrastructure implementation including Lakehouse Architecture on Databricks platform

  • Databricks, AWS EMR (Hive, Presto, Hadoop)

  • Platform automation using Python, Spark, Shell

  • AWS services – S3, EC2, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail

  • Operating systems including Linux

  • Knowledge on Platforms –Customer data platform (Segment), Data governance platform (Collibra), Snowflake, Sagemaker

  • Experience on Integration of data platforms with BI tools such as Tableau, AWS Quicksight, Alteryx

  • SQL performance tuning, optimization and development

  • Knowledge on Data warehousing, data modeling, and data analysis

  • Knowledge on implementation of Change Data Capture and Real-time/Streaming technologies applying Fivetran.

  • Knowledge of Data engineering with ability to understand and debug issues related to code developed on Pyspark, SQL.

  • Strong Knowledge on DevOps tools and automation – Terraform, Puppet, Jenkins, Bitbucket

  • Knowledge on ML and AI with focus on Infrastructure and operations

Salary Range

$114,080.00 - $187,415.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
