Clinical Research Assistant I

Full-Time

Summary:

The Clinical Research Assistant is responsible for assisting ARJR Fellows with various research tasks, including but not limited to data collection, entry, and analysis. The Clinical Research Assistant will ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with regulatory, institutional, and departmental requirements. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for the research portfolio of the Value Thematic Area which includes both regulatory, subject enrollment, as well data acquisition. The Research Assistant will adhere to Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved protocols while maintaining Good Clinical Practices and complying with Institutional and regulatory requirements.

The individual will also be responsible for HSS ARJR Registry tasks such as obtaining Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROM) calls and entering data for preoperative and postoperative patients.

The successful applicant must be available for at least a full 12 months, 2 years preferred.

Specific Duties:

  • Fellows’ Research Projects Responsibilities:

  • Compose IRB applications and submissions for new studies and continuing reviews

  • Coordinate research meetings between Principal Investigators, fellows, and biostatisticians

  • Assist in collection, review, and entering data

  • Maintain documents in an audit ready state

  • Assist with chart reviews

  • Contact patients via telephone for follow-up information

  • Organize and compile paperwork related to studies

  • Assist fellows and/or PIs in preparation of manuscripts and presentations as well as submissions for academic meetings (includes writing/editing manuscripts and abstracts)

  • Attend early morning meetings and events when applicable to fellows (i.e. Grand Rounds, Research Meetings)

  • Value Thematic Area Research Responsibilities:

  • Submit proposals to the Clinical Review Panel and Research and Innovation Committee for review of scientific quality.

  • Assist in IRB applications and submissions for approvals, re-approvals, and amendments

  • Screen and recruit patients for prospective studies

  • Perform chart reviews and submit data requests for retrospective studies

  • Assist fellows and/or PIs in preparation of manuscripts and presentations as well as submissions for academic meetings (includes writing/editing manuscripts and abstracts)

  • Responsible for administrative aspects of the Value Thematic Area (scheduling meetings and keeping a log of ongoing and submitted studies).

  • Registry-related Responsibilities:

  • Administer new and follow-up questionnaires to patients in-person

  • Enter data into electronic database/ EMR

  • Prepare mailings and emails of follow-up questionnaires

  • Call patients to follow-up with questionnaires and answer any questions

  • Act as a liaison between surgeons and patients regarding registry

Qualifications

Education/Necessary Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Life Sciences, Statistics, Mathematics majors, and MPH applicants are encouraged to apply

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (publications are a plus)

  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data management

  • Detail oriented, organized, and able to multitask

  • Experience with statistical analysis is a plus (MPH candidates encouraged to apply)

    The successful applicant for the position of Clinical Research Assistant will be a motivated and organized individual who is able to perform a variety of different tasks essential to the implementation of a clinical study. He or she will be proactive and approachable, as well as flexible, as the job description may evolve as studies progress. The individual will have access to the medical records of patients, and should appreciate this privilege while maintaining strict confidentiality with all patient medical data. He or she will also have strong communication skills, as this role involves interfacing directly with surgeons, fellows, and patients on a routine basis. The Clinical Research Assistant will report directly to the Director of Clinical Research, Arthroplasty.

USD $19.78/Hr.
