The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Associate Research Scientist in New York, New York

Work on projects regarding characterization of the hematopoietic stem cell niche in the bone marrow and the fetal liver. These would include, but not limited to, general maintenance of mouse colonies; tailing and genotyping; dissection and collection of tissues for analysis; performing flow cytometry experiments; cryo-sectioning and immunostaining of tissue sections; fluorescent and confocal microscopy imaging and analysis; construction of DNA vectors; performing gene expression analysis using PCR or RNA-seq; and related molecular and cellular experiments. We also expect you to participate in general laboratory activities such as lab meetings, journal clubs, seminars etc. In addition, you are expected to be a good lab citizen by helping maintain an interactive and orderly laboratory environment and by providing guidance and assistance to other members in the lab as needed.


Candidates are expected to have a strong work ethic, excellent organizational and communication skills, a proven track record of scientific accomplishment and the ability to think critically. A Ph.D. in biochemistry, cell & molecular biology, biomedical engineering or related field is required. Familiarity with basic bioinformatic/systems approaches and quantitative analysis would be an advantage. However, ability to drive a project forward in an interactive environment, to learn and develop new techniques, attention to detail, and a willingness to work with others is more important than any specific skill set.
