The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Associate Research Scientist in New York, New York

Columbia Engineering invites applications for an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Computer Science at Columbia University in the City of New York at all levels, to begin June 1, 2024.

The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the advancement of the research program of the System-Level Design group, which investigates the development of heterogeneous computing systems, system-on-chip platform, and open-source hardware. In particular, the successful candidate will be developing and leading externally funded research projects and contributing to the undergraduate and graduate educational mission of the department.


Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent by the starting date of the appointment. At least two years of experience as a postdoctoral researcher in academia, or similar experience in the industry, is strongly preferred. Expertise in designing and programming of systems implemented with field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology is a critical requirement.

  1. Ability to conduct research as required with proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
  2. Excellent project management skills and experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  3. Ability to effectively interact with and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  4. Expertise in system-on-chip architecture design, optimization, and verification for both FPGA and ASIC implementations;
  5. Expertise in FPGA-based design and implementation of high-performance accelerators for machine learning applications, high-speed communication protocols and sensor-interfacing subsystems;
  6. Experience in developing open-source computer-aided design (CAD) tools for FPGA and ASIC systems, with particular emphasis on system-level design (system integration, hardware/software co-design, and performance optimization);
