Vice President of Philanthropy
New York Public Radio, a premier public media organization, seeks a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Philanthropy to lead its relationship-development fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer and serving as a member of the development leadership team, this senior role oversees major and mid-level giving, foundation relations, and planned giving, with a responsibility for achieving $25–30 million in annual philanthropic revenue. The Vice President will play a critical role in shaping and advancing NYPR’s mission through innovative and impactful fundraising strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement an integrated plan to grow philanthropic revenue across major and mid-level giving, foundation relations, and planned giving. Current revenue in this portfolio is $28M, with ambitious plans for growth.
Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and development leadership team to integrate relationship-based strategies into the broader fundraising framework.
Build and manage a strong prospect pipeline for donor engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Provide regular analysis and reporting on fundraising performance against goals.
Partner with the CDO on board giving and capital and special campaigns
Major and Mid-Level Giving
Lead efforts to cultivate and steward major donors ($25,000+) and implement tailored engagement strategies for mid-level donors ($1,000 to $25,000)
Collaborate closely with membership to ensure consistent upgrades from member to mid- and major.
Personally manage a select portfolio of high-value donors, fostering relationships to secure transformational gifts.
Foundation Relations
Strengthen and expand foundation partnerships by identifying and pursuing opportunities for multi-year grants aligned with NYPR’s priorities.
Lead the team to develop strategies for pipeline development and new business, proposal development, and stewardship
Build and maintain relationships with key foundation partners
Planned Giving
Steward and grow a robust planned giving program
Support the team as they educate donors on various planned giving vehicles and their benefits
Ensure integration between major, mid, and membership donors with planned giving.
Team Management
Lead and mentor a team of 11 development professionals
Collaborate with other departments to ensure cohesive fundraising efforts
Metrics and Reporting
Establish clear performance metrics and regularly assess progress toward financial and engagement goals.
Provide detailed reporting and analysis to the Chief Development Officer and executive leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Stay abreast of trends and best to inform strategy and innovation.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and experienced fundraising professional who can build strong relationships with donors, staff, and leadership while driving significant philanthropic growth for New York Public Radio.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in fundraising, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Experience in public media a plus.
Strong leadership and team-management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions
Knowledge of current trends and best practices in philanthropy
Experience working in CRM systems required, Salesforce a plus.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred
Passion for public media and a deep commitment to NYPR’s mission and values.
Additional Information
This is a full-time role with a salary range of $200,000-225,000, annually (plus a full benefits package). Salary offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and organizational pay equity. New York Public Radio also offers comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, along with vacation time, personal days, sick time and parental leave.
This role is based in New York City (or the immediate metro area) and operates in a hybrid capacity. This individual is expected to work onsite at WNYC’s Manhattan headquarters at least 3 days a week.
