General Description

The City University of New York, City College of New York (CCNY) offers outstanding teaching, learning and research on a beautiful campus nestled in Harlem. CCNY’s Continuing and Professional Studies (CPS) shares the mission as it strives to offer training for the community and beyond serving nearly 2,000 students a year. CPS has received a three-year Vocational ESOL (VESL) grant in our Adult Education program. CPS is seeking an experienced Full-time Program Director, Vocational ESOL with a strong commitment to adult education, workforce, and the advancement of immigrants for a new three-year Vocational ESOL (VESL) program.

Other Duties

  • The Program Director will spearhead the implementation and management of a new NYC-funded VESL program, including identifying, creating, and maintaining relationships with “restaurants partners;” organizing and overseeing ESOL program classes with our school partner, Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC).

  • The Program Director will create and solidify new partnerships and relationships between multiple stakeholders of the new program (CCNY, BMCC, NYC Small Business Services/SBS, restaurant partners, CPS staff, and ESOL students).

  • Collaborate with the Continuing and Professional Studies (CPS) Director and Instructors at BMCC in the management of the grant contract, creation of processes, and monitoring of goals and deliverables.

  • Supervise instructors and PT Administrative Assistant, and foster a collaborative working environment. Monitor progress of classes onsite and offsite by conducting periodic class observations and providing feedback for professional improvement. Conduct annual performance evaluations of instructors.

  • Organize regular intake and registration of student/restaurant workers, including applicant assessments: conduct initial assessment, needs analysis, and organize data to inform program improvement.

  • Compile and review various reports to ensure site and programs are meeting program quality monitoring goals and benchmarks; ensure overall data management of site and programs. Work with CPS Director to build annual goals and performance targets for site and programs; assist in growing enrollment, retention, and other program outcomes annually.

  • Supervise PT Administrative staff with data-entry of student information into both internal database on a timely basis.

  • Coordinate with CPS Director and FT Instructor and Curriculum Developer the development of curriculum for each partner restaurant.

  • Support instructors in managing classroom dynamics and address individual needs to facilitate instructional programming and workplace development activities that utilize technology, Google Classroom, Google Suite, Zoom, Brightspace and support students and instructors with training platforms and relevant certifications; Monitor Zoom and Google classroom.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Liberal Arts, Social Work, Hospitality Management, or other related field. Graduate degree preferred.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in program coordination, working with adults in an educational setting, or in community services; Experience in the hospitality or restaurant industry a big plus.

  • Knowledge of adult education theory, practice, and operations from recruitment and intake to outcomes management and reporting. The Candidate must be skillful, detail-oriented, and creative to implement a core aspect of the new program: development and cultivation of partnerships with NYC restaurants.

  • Highly organized, excellent written and verbal communication skills; high interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships.

  • A self-starter with excellent time management skills; ability to meet deadlines, self-motivated, solution-oriented, and resourceful.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when dealing with private information.

  • Ability to work well independently, highly organized and can collaborate with a team to plan and implement outreach and recruitment in a multilingual environment, conduct registration, intake and orientation sessions, and placement of applicants in the VESL Classes.

  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish (spoken and written) preferred but not required; proficiency in Microsoft Office and clerical experience required.

  • Must be able to travel to partner school, BMCC and partner restaurants in NYC where classes are held.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including some weekends.
