Purpose

Responsible for development and oversight of implementation of operational risk framework across business and control & support functions (CSF) (as delegated by Management) in GBM US

What You’ll Do

Risk & Control Self-Assessment Process (RCSA):

  • Oversight of the design, development, implementation, and execution of the RCSA framework, policies and procedures, and overall evaluation of operational risk across all U.S. businesses (Equities, Prime Services, GBP, FICC, and CIB) and CSF.

  • Work with senior leadership as an effective risk manager, in supporting enhancement plans aimed at evolving the RCSA methodology and developing new strategies to advance the program.

  • Contribute to the evolution of the operational risk framework by driving consistency in data point gathering, including New Initiative Assessments, Operational Risk Events, Key Risk Indicators, etc., providing subsequent guidance for remediation if deficiencies identified.

First Line Testing:

  • Provides strategic direction and leads the development of the US First Line Testing program for the periodic testing of key controls to assess their design and operating effectiveness in managing operational risks in the respective US GBM business lines and corporate functions.

  • Accountable for design and execution of testing of local requirements applicable to the US, assessing and report the adequacy of the design and operating effectiveness of key controls

  • Reports overall maturity and health of the first line controls to Steering Committees and executive management on a periodic basis, including underlying causes of control breakdowns or instances where controls are inadequate.

Operational Resilience:

  • Act as a key partner to develop plans to prevent, adapt, respond to, recover, and learn from operational disruptions in collaboration with multiple stakeholders

  • Evaluate enterprise-wide assessments to tie critical data points to establish a holistic view of SBUS operational risk

  • Partner in the evolution of the operational risk and resilience framework by driving consistency in data point gathering and providing subsequent guidance for remediation if deficiencies are identified

Other:

  • Develop and motivate their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and communicating vison, values and business strategy

  • Identify and address opportunities for improving controls and efficiencies of processes.

  • Manage and deliver ad-hoc requests and special projects.

What You’ll Bring

  • University Degree/MBA/CFA/CIA or a minimum of 15 years of experience, preferably in capital markets, and experience working on operational risk processes.

  • Expert/good working knowledge of internal controls.

  • Demonstrate significant maturity, credibility and sound judgment in dealing with senior management across business lines, risk management and support groups.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Strong written and verbal communications and inter-personal skills.

Work Arrangement

  • Dynamic, fast paced office-based environment. The role requires intense focus and time management skills to effectively manage competing priorities.

  • Occasional travel is required.

  • Demands can be unpredictable.

  • Work hours may be long due to tight timeframes and the dynamic environment of capital market activities, and to provide support to other locations.
