Google Product Design Engineer, Pixel Camera Hardware in New Taipei City, Taiwan

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 1 year of experience in mechanical product design in product system level mechanical design and integration.

  • Experience in mechanical 3D/2D CAD tool such as ProE/Creo, SolidWorks, NX, Catia.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience in mechanical design of camera components (lens, VCM actuator, substrate packaging) or modules, with experience in camera module manufacturing and testing at a Module Integrator.

  • Experience in integrating camera modules and components into a product system.

  • Experience in epoxy resins and other adhesive materials, including troubleshooting related issues, and familiarity with application in electronic or optical products.

  • Knowledge of tolerance analysis, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.

  • Familiarity with part inspection, tolerance control and statistical process control.

  • Excellent failure analysis skills for mechanical failures.

Our computational challenges are so big and unique we can't just buy our hardware, we've got to make it ourselves. Our Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Mechanical Engineer you design and evaluate our data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google's continued growth.

In this role, you will become a mechanical expert in the team. You will own every mechanical design aspect of the camera module including its sub-components, tolerance analysis, performance, robustness, including reviewing the supplier's mechanical drawings, processes Design for Manufacturability, tolerance analysis and new opto-mechanical technology. You will perform technical analysis over mechanical design challenges and reliability failures.

You will also need to work with cross-functional teams to build and integrate the most advanced camera system to the products, by utilizing your mechanical design instinct, knowledge and experience.

  • Work with internal cross-functional teams and external partners to define, design and lead the camera modules mechanical design development from concept to mass production.

  • Review and develop camera integration with system teams.

  • Perform failure analysis and drive corrective actions.

  • Lead technology partners and vendors to advance camera module design technology for our products.

  • Travel to support module and system builds, conference calls with teams and partners located at different time zones.
