NJEDA Clean Energy Intern - New Jersey Green Bank in New Jersey

Overview

Job Summary

The Clean Energy Intern will gain first-hand experience working in a State government that has some of the most significant climate targets nationwide – including in areas such as zero-emission transportation, building decarbonization and resiliency, and clean energy generation and storage – that are part of an overall economic strategy to create a stronger and fairer New Jersey . They will specifically be provided with the unique opportunity to contribute to New Jersey’s equitable clean energy transition by supporting the design and execution of the New Jersey Green Bank .

On April 10, 2024, the NJEDA Board approved the creation of the New Jersey Green B ank , a financial organization designed to advance progress towards the State’s climate goals through investments and financial assistance , as a subsidiary of the NJEDA. Following NJEDA Board approval of the subsidiary, the Green Bank held its first Board meeting on May 28, 2024 and the NJEDA is continuing to work toward making the entity fully operational.

Through supporting the development of the Green Bank, the i ntern will receive exposure to green finance, project and program analysis and implementation, and sector development policy , as well as have the opportunity to interact with numerous private sector entities, government agencies, and nonprofit partners .

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support s Senior Project Officers and other member s of the Clean Energy Products team and/or Green Bank staff in operationalizing the New Jersey Green Bank , including in the following areas :

  • Outlining processes for developing and launching Green Bank products and approving individual transactions ;

  • Setting up advisory committees mentioned in the Green Bank’s formation document s; and

  • Developing metrics that the Green Bank will regularly track

  • Help s with outreach to prospective Green B ank appli ca nts , track s outreach in CRM, and coordinat e s with existing and potential Green Bank funding and deployment partners (e. g., private sector companies , governmental entities, nonprofits, etc.)

  • Assist s with the Green Bank’s transaction process (e.g., due diligence, eligibility verification, term sheet development, etc.) for any initial applications received for Green Bank financial support

  • Maintain s industry knowledge and remains abreast of the latest developments in the clean energy sector and green finance ; conducts research on clean energy initiatives and green banks in other states and countries

  • Promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative, and customer focused work environment among division, EDA / Green Bank staff, and external customers

  • Performs other duties and special projects, as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing , and to foster communication with business professionals and EDA /Green Bank staff

  • Ability to synthesize findings and propose actionable solutions

  • Knowledge and understanding of green finance and green banks , economic development, and policy and industry trends related to the Clean Energy sector

  • Ability to prioritize workload, must be highly organized, detail-oriented, handle various tasks simultaneously and work independently within limited time constrains with little or no supervision

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and deal effectively and diplomatically with business professionals and EDA /Green Bank staff

  • Demonstrates respectful behavior and promotes teamwork and communication to encourage an interactive, cooperative, collaborative and customer focused work environment among division, EDA /Bank staff and external customers. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software packages

  • Enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited degree program

    Position Requirements

  • Foreign degrees/transcripts must be evaluated by a reputable evaluation service at your own expense and must be submitted prior to a start date . If this cannot be provided within 21 days of an offer the offer will be rescinded.

  • Must comply with the “New Jersey First Act” which requires employees hired after September 1, 2011 to reside in New Jersey. Non-New Jersey resident employees must relocate to New Jersey within one year of their date of hire and provide proof of residency to Human Resources.
