Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Museum Preparator for the Zimmerli Art Museum. This position plays a key role in the preparation of works for exhibitions at the Museum.Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Prepares works of art on paper for in-house and travelling exhibitions including matting and framing.
  • Provides storage and general care of the collections of works of art on paper.
  • Performs basic conservation work when needed.
  • Prepares labels for exhibitions.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in fine arts or related field or an equivalent combination of education
    and/or related experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in the proper handling of artworks, matting, and framing works on paper.
  • General knowledge of matting and framing a variety of works on paper mediums.
  • Ability to work independently and in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with museum quality matting and framing.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to do basic math, especially with measurements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced museum environment while maintaining professional standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and seek additional professional opinions when needed.
Equipment Utilized
  • Mat cutter.
  • Framing tools.
  • Adhesives.
  • Archival supplies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to stand for most of the workday.
  • Some heavy lifting required.
