Staff Development Coordinator/Nurse Educator (RN)

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to monitor the quality assurance and performance improvement program in the facility and to coordinate all departmental and interdepartmental performance improvement projects, as well as direct and schedule all in-services.

QUALIFICATION:

  1. A current State of Tennessee license as a Registered Nurse

Nurse.

  1. Must be able to read, write, and speak English in an understandable manner.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be physically and mentally capable of performing routine job duties.

  2. Must have working knowledge of nursing services, nursing administration, rehabilitation, general nursing, and geriatric nursing.

  3. Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. of the nursing center for the purpose of developing a QA/PI program.

  4. Ability to identify problems and to address them in the context of a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement structure.

  5. Be personable with residents, families, and staff in a professional and cooperative manner.

  6. Must have compassion, tolerance, and understanding for the elderly.

  7. Knowledge of JCAHO, OBRA, IDPH, and HFS standards in regards to the QA/PI program.

MAIN DUTIES:

A. Support the facility's philosophy of care and strive to achieve its goals and objectives.

B. Schedule the quarterly Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement meetings and inform all department heads and outside contractors of the date and time.

C. Coordinate the QA/PI projects of each department including:

a) Infection Control

b) Fall Monitoring

c) Restraint Reduction

d) Psychotropic Reduction

D. Assist all departments in the determination of an appropriate QA/PI project.

E. Monitor the progress of each QA/PI project, all required documentation, and make recommendations to project chair people.

F. Schedule in-services to all staff appropriate for their department and general in-services to all staff as part of their required ongoing orientation and education.

G. Assist in chart auditing to guarantee currency and accuracy.

H. Work as the weekend supervisor as part of the department head monthly rotation.

I. Attend admissions, department head, QA/PI, and Medicare meetings and others as deemed appropriate.

J. Maintain the confidentiality of resident information and honor his/her personal and property rights.

K. Follow established fire, disaster, safety, infection control, and evacuation policies and procedures.

L. Perform other related duties as directed by the DON and Administrator.

M. Work as weekend Supervisor as part of Department head monthly rotation.
