Starting Salary Range $52,723 - $71,733

Job Summary:The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining HVAC equipment, refrigeration equipment, and other components. Other responsibilities include operating and performing general maintenance on numerous heating and air-conditioning systems, ventilation equipment involving computerized Building Automation Systems, and other related mechanical equipment for performance efficiency and calibration.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and installs HVAC electrical, electronic, hydraulic components, and pneumatic control centers.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on all HVAC and ventilation equipment to maintain compliance with service, warranty, and maintenance standards.
  • Completes written reports and maintains daily log to document maintenance and repairs of HVAC systems, and energy management systems.
  • Maintains and operates the HVAC systems by utilizing a Building Automation System (BAS).
  • Interacts with customers regarding heating and air conditioning complaints.
  • Reads charts, gauges, levels, and temperatures for all systems and accurately documenting data as required.
  • Operates computerized preventative maintenance program.
  • Operates chiller compressors (reciprocating and centrifugal), cooling towers, and related equipment.
  • Performs start up, shut down, inspections, and performs preventative maintenance on cooling towers systems, pumps, valves, etc.
  • Performs chemical analysis of chiller loop water and condenser water treatment system and accurately prepare reports.
  • Responds to alarms, identify malfunctions or abnormal operations of equipment and facilities, and make necessary adjustments and/or emergency repairs.
  • Assists vendors and contractors where needed.
  • Maintains regular and on-time attendance.
  • Follows all safety regulations.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:

  • HVAC Systems: Knowledge of the principles of HVAC operations, gases, and the refrigeration cycle.
  • Water Testing: Knowledge of practice purpose, and procedures for testing water.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Skill in identifying the need for and performing routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Communication: Skill in communicating effectively at all levels of the organization and with stakeholders, both orally and in writing.
  • Reporting: Skill in preparing and producing timely and accurate oral and written reports.
  • Relationship Building: Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and professional working relationships with others.
  • Blueprint Reading: Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints and other technical drawings such as schematics, ladder diagrams, and sketches.
  • Leadership: Skill in leading, taking charge, and offering opinions and direction.
  • Volume Calculations: Skill in calculating volumes, areas, and flow rates to properly size water, drainage pipes, and ducting.
  • Smell Sensitivity: Ability to detect and locate smells, scents, and odors in the work environment.
  • Dependability: Acts reliably and responsibly with others.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent and an HVAC certificate from a license trade school.
  • 2-4 years mechanics, installation, or related experience.
  • Valid CLASS D Driver's License.
  • HVAC Certification

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree in a related field.
  • Military comparable or similar training.
  • 4-7 years mechanics, installation, or related experience.
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification.
  • American Technician Excellence (NATE) Certification.
