HarperCollins Publishers Account Manager – Mass Market Sales in Nashville, Tennessee

HarperCollins Christian and HarperCollins Focus is seeking an Account Manager to join the Mass Market Sales team. This is a fast-paced and visible role that combines account support and selling front list and backlist titles to accounts. The Mass Market Team works directly with accounts including Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club, and several other high-profile accounts, as well as with Readerlink Distribution Services.

This is a unique role that requires both individual and team selling skills, as well as account support and communication mainly with Readerlink Distribution Services. A willingness to learn the accounts, manage buyer expectations. and effectively communicate those expectations internally are key to success in this role. Weekly tasks include a mix of routine responsibilities while also balancing last-minute requests.

This role is perfect for someone who likes to work with a team, is goal oriented, likes a challenge, is comfortable with change and wants to creatively finds ways to grow sales.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate line review presentation preparation: create and edit line review materials (detailed spreadsheets, PowerPoint) per account guidelines, create and mail mockups/samples, manage title details in Readerlink’s system.

  • Manage Sales Dept Tasks: Daily maintenance of orders tracking sheet, updating title/catalog changes, managing special order requests and discounts as needed.

  • Verbally present (in-person or via video) new frontlist and backlist titles to buyers as needed.

  • Attend weekly meetings with publishing and marketing groups to discuss new titles and speak into account specific requests.

  • Communicate regularly with publishing and marketing teams to create account specific marketing plans.

  • Review sales data to effectively communicate trends with buyers and publishing partners.

  • Represent account needs at weekly supply chain and print meetings, communicate decisions to key stakeholders.

  • Brainstorm new products ideas specific to the accounts managed.

  • Establish and maintain buyer relationships with the goal of growing book sales in each account.

  • Some travel may be required, based on account requests.

Qualifications

General Knowledge: Retail account knowledge, relationship management, written and verbal presentation.

Work Experience: 1 to 3 years’ experience in publishing or 3+ years of outside sales account management experience.

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Industry Knowledge: Publishing background and/or working with mass market retailers such as Walmart, Target, Meijer, Kroger is preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to work with a team towards a shared goal

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Supply chain knowledge

  • Basic retail math (calculating margin, weeks of supply, sell through percentages, etc..)

  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple responsibilities in a deadline driven environment

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
