PACCAR Advanced Controls Engineer in Mount Vernon, Washington

Job Title: Advanced Controls Engineer

Job Duties:  Perform systems engineering, modeling, simulation, and controls engineering for development of advanced vehicle systems including electrified powertrain, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), advanced powertrain operational strategies, and diesel engine and aftertreatment systems. Design architectures and control strategies for advanced heavy-duty vehicle integrated powertrain concepts including kinetic energy management, electrical energy management, and maximizing energy conservation. Design functionally safe architectures and control strategies and validation methods for vehicle automation systems -- with focus on the actuation layer. Perform concept development and evaluation of advanced vehicle operational strategies. Prove and optimize control strategies using modeling, simulation, SIL, HIL, system, and vehicle testing -- where systems, subsystems, and components suitably and best allow. Work with a highly functional group of experts that can facilitate a wide array of proof-of-concepts using a technology pre-development process to solve technical challenges. Plan and manage research, analysis, testing, and documentation according to PACCAR's Technology Readiness Level process. Provide technical support in a range of engineering disciplines to fill in resource gaps and ensure progress. Ensure technology transfer to relevant PACCAR divisions and personnel.  

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in Automotive Engineering, or a related STEM field, or the foreign degree equivalent and 3 years of automotive engineering experience focused on powertrains OR Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering or a related STEM field, or the foreign degree equivalent and 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate automotive engineering experience focused on powertrains.  This must include 3 years of experience in each of the following:

Battery controls and troubleshooting, including leading software integration and testing for multiple generations of battery packs and troubleshooting electrical, software, and process issues relating to batteries;

  • High voltage integration, including working with international vehicle manufacturers to integrate, commission, and test batteries, and charging systems;
  • Designing and building test systems to validate charging software, working with charger equipment manufacturers to implement DC fast-charging systems and prototype innovative technologies;
  • Using ISO 26262 and its implementation;
  • Developing simulation and controls suitable for powertrain deployment;
  • Using rapid control prototyping development tools, hardware, and software; and
  • Using the following tools: (1) dSPACE MicroAutoBox or Speedgoat, (2)New Eagle Raptor, Woodward Motohawk, or Dana M5xx; (3) Vector CANalyzer; (4) ATI VISION or PiSnoop; and (5) CAN, LIN, and J1939 communication protocols.

Experience may be gained concurrently.  

LOCATION: Position full-time, 40 hours per week, with PACCAR Inc located in Mt. Vernon, WA.  

SALARY:  $112,091 per year to $151,300 per year. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift.
