Job Summary:

Plans, directs, and leads large scale engineering staff and activities to ensure projects, initiatives and processes comply with established policies/objectives.

The manufacturing strategy and development senior manager will play a key role in the development of manufacturing strategy at Caterpillar as well as the execution and scaling of best practices across the global enterprise. Key responsibilities include the growth and development of relationships with facilities and business units, planning and directing implementation strategies, and ensuring that best practices and common solutions are scaled as Caterpillar transitions to an Industry 4.0 architecture. Key partners will be Caterpillar IT, Business unit manufacturing teams, facility leaders and our extensive partner network.

What You Will Do:

• Ensure high awareness across the enterprise of manufacturing capabilities and common practices. This includes communicating enterprise strategies for assembly, fabrication, machining, test and digital initiatives as well as supporting footprint strategy across the enterprise. Role will also aid in assessing best practices and influencing to create a scaled approach to industry 4.0

• Working directly with Business unit manufacturing professionals to provide manufacturing expertise in the planning, implementation, and support of processes, procedures, machinery, and tooling to improve efficiency, cost effectiveness, quality, and safety.

• Create and maintain a clear definition and portfolio of best practices to support expedited replication. - Driving process changes leveraging research and process performance data to identify and implement changes that improve outcomes with regard to people, quality, velocity, cost and safety.

• Collaborate with enterprise councils and leader forums to gain support for the best solutions

• Managing the activities and resources for manufacturing technical leaders, engineers, process design and support personnel. -Providing on-going support for manufacturing challenges; engages resources to drive resolution for technically challenging and strategic production problems.

• Role will also perform as the chief-of -staff for the Manufacturing Technology & Solutions Division.

Education Requirement:

4-year degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Business

Project Management:

• Utilizes preferred tools, techniques, and methods for estimating project cost and time.

• Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes, and monitors significant projects. Identifies risks and contingencies.

• Conducts regular and ad-hoc project reviews with project team, sponsors, and clients. • Maintains open communication among project participants and interested parties.

• Communicates reporting requirements; creates monitoring and control mechanisms.

Capacity Planning & Management - MFG:

• Works with R&D (research & development) staff to plan resource and capacity requirements for products under development.

• Advises on multiple cycles of short- and long-term capacity planning for product or site.

• Compares and contrasts alternative approaches and tools for capacity planning.

• Develops estimates and costs for incremental capacity requirements.

Lean:

• Creates a culture of Lean that supports growth of individuals and teams and drives toward rapid yet agile decision making.

• Mentors others on the organizational and cultural transformation needed for effective lean execution of deliverables.

• Leads discussions on the future of lean manufacturing; cites successes and failures. Encourages the “Art of the Possible”

• Establishes and monitors benchmarks for measuring effectiveness of current enterprise process and capabilities

The locations for this position are Mossville, IL; Seguin, TX; Tucson, AZ; Griffin, GA, Lafayette, IN; Decatur, IL; South Milwaukee, WI.
