rrPosition Summary:

rRaven Scholars Program provides a supported transition for University of Idaho students on the autism spectrum. The program supports college success by providing weekly planning meetings, peer mentoring, coordination of campus services and opportunities to improve social, academic and life skills. Participants are admitted to the program on a first-come, first-serve basis for this donation-based program.

Duties made include:

  • Provides one-on-one and group support to individuals enrolled in the program to improve academic and social skills
  • Assisting their direct supervisor, Raven Scholars Associate Director, in managing general office responsibilities. The Academic and Social Skills Coach would be responsible for learning about and educating Raven Scholars about campus resources, including the Center for Disability Access and Resources, Student Support Services, Tutoring, Counseling and Mental Health Center, and other campus services
  • The Academic and Social Skills coach would manage a caseload of Raven Scholar students, which includes developing individualized semester action plans, rotating weekly planning meetings, interventions for social and academic issues, and being available for additional scheduled coaching sessions on social and academic skills for all Raven Scholar students
  • The position also models social and academic skills through social opportunities within the program and develops rapport with all Raven Scholars
  • This role may include assisting in organized events, such as facilitating discussion groups and workshops
  • In addition, the Academic and Social Skills coach may be responsible for educating campus partners on how to best serve Neuro-Diverse students through collaboration and mediation with faculty, staff, and other students
  • Other duties as assigned

rrMinimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors Degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, sociology, medical, adult, organizational leadership and learning, human development and family studies, communication or family and consumer science

{=html} <!-- --> - One year of post-graduate professional experience coordinating services to individuals with disabilities - Experience interviewing relevant to disability determination - Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials - Experience using computer software and applications for word processing, email, internet searches, and data organization

rrPreferred Qualifications:

r

  • Masters degree in counseling, education, social work, psychology, sociology, medical, adult, organizational leadership and learning, human development and family studies, communication, and family and consumer science
  • Experience providing support to individuals with mental health or learning disabilities.
  • Knowledgeable of disability laws (Sec. 504, ADA, ADAAA) and other appropriate services/accommodations for students with disabilities at the post-secondary level
  • Experience working with applicable laws and regulations regarding student records (FERPA, HIPAA, The Clery Act, and other legislation regarding students rights and services)
  • Experience writing concise reports, communicating verbally and in writing
  • Experience analyzing problems, dentifying solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
  • Experience using professional judgment to solve problems and make sound decisions
  • Ability to mediate issues that arise
  • Experience organizing and ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated experience in approaching work and interactions with colleagues and students in an equity-minded manner
