*Where You Will Work *

Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

Description

Our Temporary Summer Worker program is tailored to individuals who are currently enrolled in an Associate's degree program or in the first or second year of a four (4)-year program (of any type) from an accredited college or university. The length of the program typically runs from mid-May to mid-August.

  • Under close supervision, complete various tasks that contribute to the day to day operations

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

Preferred

  • Willing and able to accept a temporary, three (3) month assignment (anticipated to last from mid-to-end of May through beginning-to-mid August)

  • Interest in and/or exposure to mining operations

  • Willing and able to work a rotating shift

Criteria/Conditions

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment

  • This is a Safety Sensitive Role

  • Work will be located in Morenci, AZ

  • Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is or might be required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear, and see

  • Employee might occasionally be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds

  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required

  • Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing as per applicable State Laws

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently  *$22.00 - $22.50/hour.  *

  • Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam. 

  • Candidates must pass all required training and/or testing. 

  • Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, which may include shift work (other than day shift) at a 24/7, 365-day operation.
