Eaton’s ES AMER DIG division is currently seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer - Digital Hardware Enablement.

Relocation assistance is provided. Must be willing to relocate to either of the following Eaton locations: Raleigh NC, Pittsburgh PA (Moon Twp) or Greater Milwaukee WI area (Menomonee Falls WI). This position offers a Hybrid work schedule.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $97499.97 - $142999.96 a year.

In this role you will:

• Lead the design and implementation of features of an embedded RTOS IoT platform.

• Collaborate with product teams, stakeholders, and engineers across the world to create high-quality products.

• Investigate new technologies and contribute to technology road-mapping activities.

• Evaluate business requirements and use-cases to identify potential solutions.

• Author high-quality, high-performance code principally written in C/C++.

• Work with the team to drive improvements in software craftsmanship at all levels.

• Document software components and interactions using flowcharts, diagrams, code comments, and code snippets.

• Demonstrate a fluency of and bias toward open-source software and have a firm understanding of best practices around integrating open-source software into commercial products.

• Work as part of a global, multi-disciplinary Agile Release Train.

• Operate in an iterative development process, contributing to team backlog refinement, and collaborating to provide work estimates, sprint plans, and PI plans to meet the needs of Eaton’s various product development teams.

• Leverage best-in-class software development tools to enable scalable system development.

• Mentor junior team members on new technologies, and good coding practices.

• Maintain skills through the studying of software development techniques and programming trends.

Qualifications:

Basic REQUIRED Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.

• Minimum of 7 years of experience working in embedded systems software development with a solid understanding of software design principles, algorithms, data structures, and multithreading concepts.

• 5+ years of experience developing code for RTOS-based embedded systems.

• Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated knowledge of a source code version control system and using the system effectively in the context of medium or large software development teams. (ie GIT, Subversion, etc)

• Hands-on experience with Python.

• Relocation assistance will be provided. Must be willing to relocate to either Raleigh, NC, Pittsburgh PA (Moon Twp) or Greater Milwaukee WI area (Menomonee Falls WI)

• Ability to travel up to 25%. (note: applies if you work at our Pittsburgh PA or Menomonee WI location as it will require travel to Raleigh NC Eaton location)

• Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Raleigh NC, Pittsburgh PA (Moon Twp.), or the Greater Milwaukee WI area will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

• 5+ years of experience developing cyber-physical systems using C++.

• Development of embedded systems using Zephyr or FreeRTOS.

• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Design (OOD) principles, and the ability to model thoughtful and efficient software system designs using UML.

Skills:

• Demonstrated competency using or designing systems communicating with industrial networking protocols (e.g. HTTP, TCP/IP, MQTT, Modbus, BACnet, CAN).

• Deep working knowledge of at least one other programming language beyond C and C++.

• Able to effectively communicate and lead within a global team environment, across multiple time zones.

• Ability to influence peers and get traction and followership with best practices and technical ideas.

• Exhibits a bias toward automation, and skilled at automating various aspects of the SDLC - particularly tests.

• Willingness to engage with other embedded software teams to promote reuse, share knowledge, and advance the software development community within Eaton.

• Strong problem solving and software debugging skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively distill and explain technical concepts.

• Stays abreast of upcoming software engineering tools, trends, and methodologies.

• Good judgment, time management, and decision-making skills.

• Self-starter with the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision.

• Experience leading technical resources.

• Experience working on large, diverse, globally-distributed teams.

• Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework and Scrum.

• Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and a good familiarity with unit test frameworks (e.g. GoogleTest, GoogleMock, xUnit++, etc.).

• Experience with multi-core embedded systems.

• Solid understanding of cybersecurity and/or cryptography.

• Solid understanding of software design principles, algorithms, data structures, and multithreading concepts.
