What You’ll Be Doing

In order to fulfill CIBC’s commitment to providing our clients with a full range of products and services, our Mid-Market Investment Banking team was formed 30+ years ago and is the longest-serving investment banking team dedicated to the mid-market of any bank in Canada.

The group helps owners and management teams of private companies achieve their goals, whether that be making an acquisition, raising growth capital or selling all, or a portion, of their company. These events are often the most important financial transaction in our clients’ lives.

As a Senior Associate in Mid-Market Investment Banking, you will work with colleagues and play an important role in the winning and execution of these mandates. This includes gathering information, creating pitches and marketing materials, analyzing the financial implications of proposals and supporting the due diligence process through to the close of a transaction.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Collaboration: Support Managing Directors and all other team members in transaction execution, business development presentations and meetings and other such duties within diverse industries and sectors. Regular contact with internal CIBC peer groups including Commercial Banking, Private Wealth, and Capital Markets.

  • Workflows: Create confidential information memorandums, management presentations, client proposals, pitchbooks, marketing materials and other general presentations. Prepare detailed financial models. Research and develop an awareness of mergers & acquisition activity, trends and developments. You must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls.

  • Analysis: Valuation of businesses using comparable trading analysis, precedent transaction analysis, discount cash flow analysis and other industry metrics. Responsible for quantitative and qualitative data analysis and industry research.

  • Networking: Develop and cultivate relationships with peers at other financial institutions, private equity groups, industry associations, and other professionals on a regular basis to promote CIBC’s interest and maintain knowledge of their area of specialization.

Who You Are

  • Education You’ve Completed: Undergraduate degree in a business-related discipline, along with a professional designation (e.g. CPA, CBV, CFA)

  • Industry Experience: Knowledge of current financial markets, and an understanding of current market transactions. At least 3 years’ of investment banking, M&A transaction advisory or due diligence support, private equity, or corporate development experience is required.

  • Technical Skills: Experience in financial modeling & analysis is required. Significant presentation/interactive skills sufficient to clearly convey ideas and solutions to unstructured business problems. Ability to synthesize large quantities of information plus excellent writing skills to concisely explain a client’s business and attract interest from buyers/investors. Strong computer skills working with Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Bloomberg, CapIQ.

  • Detail Oriented: Ability to work independently and on multiple files simultaneously, with a high degree of accuracy while adhering to tight deadlines.
