The base rate of pay for this position is $27.91 per hour.The Health Department is seeking a PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITIONIST - WIC to join their team. This position performs work as a registered dietician within the Health Services Division of the Missoula City-County Health Department. Will be assigned an area of responsibility which may include: Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Provides nutrition counseling for high risk clients. Maintains documentation of nutrition and health assessments, care plans and delivery of nutrition and referral services. Refers clients to appropriate social and health resources services within the Health Department and the community. Collaborates with Health Services professional staff, community partners, and primary care staff to facilitate health condition-specific group education and/or individual counseling for prenatal, postpartum or breastfeeding clients, infants, children and clients with special health care needs. Plans, conducts and/or participates in quality assurance and/or quality improvement processes to monitor program impact and makes appropriate recommendations for program planning. Builds relationships and develops partnerships and referral sources with community organizations and agencies. Participates in strategic and emergency planning, quality improvement, performance management, workforce development, and accreditation documentation and activities. Serves as part of incident command during emergencies. Participates in department-wide strategic activities. Advocates for regulations and policies that protect public and environmental health. DESIGNATED AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY: Serves in the WIC program making determinations on participant nutritional eligibility. Provides nutrition assessment; assigns appropriate risk codes, develops nutrition care plans; assigns food prescriptions and provides education to high-risk participants who, at certification or follow-up visits, are determined to require more in-depth nutrition intervention. Provides breastfeeding and general nutrition education to individual participants, promotes and supports breastfeeding, provides program outreach and making referrals to community services. Approves medical formula prescriptions for participants.Minimum Qualifications•Requires a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited didactic program in dietetics. •Requires one year of experience working as a dietitian. •SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be a Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and Licensed Nutritionist through the State of Montana. Requires successfully passing a criminal history background check. Depending on assignment, may require CPR.Physical/Environmental DemandsRequires little physical activity and the employee commonly provides services in an office and/or in-home setting. The employee may risk recurring exposure to communicable diseases. Evening and weekend work is seldom required.
