As a Project Manager – Trade Services, you have a leadership role in one of the key strategic initiatives for Knutson Construction – further developing one of the highest potential areas of profitable growth for the business and further solidifying Knutson's century-old identity as a self-performing general contractor. You are a self-driven individual who takes ownership of multiple project scopes that all focus on Trade Services. You oversee and manage the execution of self-performed concrete, masonry, and general trades on projects. You manage the project budget and drive the schedule through strong relationships with foremen, superintendents, and trade partners. You value safety, communication, people development, continuous improvement, efficiency, quality assurance, and consistent financial performance. You possess and value a firm understanding of construction means and methods.

The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Be a steward to help drive and support Knutson's Zero Incident Safety Culture.

  • Deliver The Knutson Experience (TKE) to clients, partners, and coworkers on each project.

  • Play a leadership role in all Trade Services operations on assigned Knutson projects.

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to maximize efficiency of Trade Service work.

  • Regularly review labor and material cost reports against budget with project team – including foremen – and suggest changes to resolve variances and improve performance.

  • Accountable to manage the Trade services portion of monthly project team meeting (PTM) reporting.

  • Lead and manage self-perform crews in collaboration with Trade Services Superintendent(s) and Foremen, ensuring productivity and quality standards.

  • Provide guidance and support to Trade Service team members, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.

  • Conduct regular Trade Service team meetings and progress reviews.

  • Ensure all Trade Service work is performed in compliance with industry standards, building codes, and safety regulations.

  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor quality and address any issues promptly.

  • Develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.

  • Prepare and submit regular financial reports to stakeholders.

  • Negotiate subcontracts and manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Work together with on-site construction team to ensure Trade Services efficiencies are attainable starting at mobilization of Trade Services operations on site.

  • Complete the procurement and project buyout process for Trade Service packages.

  • Support improvement and implementation of standard operating procedures.

  • Support efforts to capture Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and lessons learned directly related to Trade services and assist in collaboratively sharing lessons learned with team members throughout the organization.

  • Identify and control project risk, in coordination with the project team.

  • Manage projects to achieve or exceed the established Trade Services margin goals.

  • Review and understand the implications of all contracts and contract document risk, collaborating with project leaders to mitigate risk(s).

  • Develop and consistently implement, with support from project team, quality assurance/quality control policies and practices.

  • Responsible for the Trade Services operations side of the Preconstruction process under the leadership of the Preconstruction department.

  • Communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to assure mutual understanding of desired results; resolves internal and/or external barriers that prohibit successful goal achievement

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and interest in expanding knowledge of Trade Services activities.

  • Knowledge of project management and accounting applications. Preferably knowledgeable in Procore, CMiC, and Asta scheduling programs.

  • Proven track record of holding subcontractors and project teams accountable for their responsibilities.

  • Ability to identify and resolve quality and construction issues.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to manage project financials.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or related field with a minimum of 5-7 years of commercial general contracting experience.

  • Construction-related certifications and trainings are highly desirable.

  • Field experience is a plus.

Travel Expectations:

The PM-Trade Services must be willing and able to travel to offices and project sites on a regular and reasonable basis to effectively provide support, which may on occasion include overnight trips. It is anticipated that travel may be required 20% - 30% of the time, with actual travel fluctuating based on project support needs and where the incumbent lives.
