ONRS staff work in a hybrid environment that allows flexibility on work location but does require presence on campus on a regular basis at times. The Grant Development Specialist position will contribute to a portfolio of grant development related services and resources offered by ONRS. This position will target the specialized educational needs of nursing faculty by developing and implementing a suite of programs and services designed to increase the competitiveness of proposals submitted for intramural and extramural funding. The position requires research development content knowledge-including grant writing and editing skills, experience with faculty research mentorship/development activities, and strong communication skills. Specific on-the-job training and mentoring will be provided to the Grant Development Specialist to allow the development of a deep knowledge of nursing science and interdisciplinary research programs. The Grant Development Specialist position reports to the Associate Dean for Research. Responsibilities School of Nursing Grant Development Activities (90%) Provide one-on-one grant development guidance to nursing faculty of all levels utilizing research development knowledge and expertise. Review specific proposals with strategic value to the School (i.e., assessing the proposal's clarity, cogency, etc.). Design, develop, and implement grant development programmatic activities tailored to School of Nursing faculty. Potential topics and approaches are to be determined in close consultation with the Associate Dean for Research, but areas/activities could include: Introductory research grant writing workshop targeting new Nursing faculty/early career investigators The formation of peer-to-peer writing groups (e.g., focusing on capacity building around drafting / reviewing Specific Aims; targeted to specific grant submission cycles; planned resubmissions, etc.) One time skill-building seminars based on identified needs and targeted to either specific faculty subgroups (e.g., mid-career faculty; clinical faculty) or specific topics (e.g., innovation, partnerships) Contribute to the advancement the School's research capacity and profile (10%) Provide counsel to the Associate Dean for Research, as requested Advise the ONRS office as to grant or research development-related best practices and innovations; collaborate on activities when reasonable. Qualifications Required Qualifications BA/BS plus at least 5 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least nine years. Intellectual curiosity Effective communication skills (written and verbal) Familiarity with the research process Writing mentorship/faculty training experience Grantsmanship: grant writing/editing experience with a history of assisting faculty develop research proposals. Research development content knowledge Planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage and meet deadlines for multiple projects Preferred Qualifications Experience/Ability to foster productive, working relationships with faculty Program development experience An advanced degree and 5 years of related-experience Experience with research grant submissions / Letters of Interest to NIH or to major sponsors Knowledge of the University of Minnesota research infrastructure About the Department Founded in 1909 and recognized as the first nursing program established within a university, the University of Minnesota School of Nursing continues to lead the profession into the future.
