USIT customers are most of the businesses of the University of Minnesota. Examples of these, under the organization University Services, include Housing and Residential Life, University Health and Safety, Capital Planning, University Dining (both residential and restaurants), Bookstores, Parking and Transit (including Vehicle Fleet), Printing, Addressing and Mailing, U Market Services (warehouse and distribution), along with Facilities Management (custodial and building maintenance). University Services has about 3,000 employees. This employee's initial customer focus would be for the distribution and retail areas of University Services (Bookstore, Dining and U Market Services) along with the campus card (U Card). The employee in this position would be assigned application development and maintenance responsibilities for USIT applications (mostly PHP, but also some Javascript, Java, other web programming languages, HTTP requests, API's, legacy procedural languages, various integration packages for secure file transfer, xml, various reporting tools like Tableau and Crystal Reports). The employee is not required to know all of these technologies (ex: Java) before applying. Although USIT does write applications from the ground up, the majority of the work is in modifying and integrating purchased packages. Responsibilities 40% * Design, build and integrate computer programs. Estimate tasks for clients, and track time against those estimates. 10% * Provide analytics over the tens of millions of transactions that USIT customers generate each year. Work directly with customers to define requirements. 20% * On smaller projects, those generally under three months, work directly with customers to define requirements, design systems, implementation/testing plans, and give estimates of work. On larger projects, coordinate with a USIT business analyst to deliver these tasks. 5% * Use change management tools and procedures to test automations and promote them to live. 25% * Troubleshoot existing computer programs, working directly with clients - log the incident, develop solutions for it, along with estimates, get approval from the client, and either deliver the solution and/or draw on other USIT staff to deliver. Salary Range: $69,000 - $79,000 Work Environment Work is performed Monday - Friday, from 8:00 - 4:30. Currently USIT allows developers to work some days at home, via equipment issued and secured by USIT. For this position, the initial work location would be four days onsite and one off-site. Two of the onsite days would be at the USIT developer location (Printing Services Building) and two also there or the customer location (Coffman Memorial Union), both of which are on the Twin Cities East Bank Campus. Qualifications Required Qualifications * BA/BS Degree required. Two years of work experience in the areas of applications development with a related BA/BS degree (ex: Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or Accounting). Preferred Qualifications * Experience in application integration. * Experience in data analytics. * Experience working directly with customers. * Experience as a supervisor or team lead. * Knowledge of accounting and business processes. * Self-motivated, ability to juggle multiple tasks. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Experience in learning and drawing on a variety of integration, report ng, and programming tools (Tableau, Business Objects, Java, PHP, sftp/xml, and legacy programming languages). * Experience in learning and drawing on a variety of implementation tools and methodologies (ex: Agile, prototyping versus formal systems analysis and design, entity relationship diagrams, process flows, data flows). * Experience integrating with third party applications.
