The Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Senior Project Manager (MEP SPM) will play a pivotal role in our new Milwaukee Data Center, a cutting-edge facility designed to support the next generation of technological advancements. This role requires a unique blend of interpersonal communication, organizational skills, and self-direction, along with a robust background in data center design, engineering, controls, and operational requirements. The MEP SPM will emphasize project and construction management with a high focus on mechanical, electrical and plumbing processes.

Responsibilities

The Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Senior Project Manager coordinates activities on the Mechanical Systems portion of datacenter development. Responbilities include:

  • Mechanical Process Delivery: Oversee the mechanical process delivery for the site location, ensuring the program is delivered safely, on schedule, on budget, and with high quality.

  • Compliance and Standards: Ensure all mechanical projects meet Microsoft guidelines and industry best practices.

  • Coordination and Collaboration: Work closely with the Data Center Engineering (DCE) team and specialty consultants to provide feedback based on the Basis of Design (BOD). Align team objectives, business processes, and cross-group collaboration efforts with the DCD project strategy.

  • Project Monitoring: Monitor the status of mechanical projects to ensure they stay on schedule and within budget. Handle administrative duties such as budgeting, managing agreements with subcontractors, and ensuring compliance with safety, labor, and zoning regulations.

Business Processes:

  • Ensure safe working conditions through documentation and procedure reviews.

  • Manage General Contractors (GCs) and vendor performance to ensure project delivery on time and on budget.

  • Collaborate with construction and subcontractor teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of mechanical systems.

  • Apply influence, strategies, and negotiation skills to recommend solutions.

Communication:

  • Communicate key needs to engineering and sourcing teams.

  • Highlight potential issues affecting project execution.

  • Act as the point of contact for development and delivery of mechanical systems.

  • Coordinate meetings and activities of vendors and cost managers.

  • Report project progress on scope, schedule, and budget.

Vendor Management and Contract Compliance:

  • Provide daily oversight of construction sites.

  • Prepare and review Request for Proposals (RFPs) and other project approval tools.

  • Review and approve vendor scope of work and design plans.

  • Provide oversight and performance management of vendors, validate vendor pay applications, and manage compliance with prior audit results and recommendations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, building science, or a related field

  • 10+ years of progressive responsibility in development of mechanical process construction or other large, complicated infrastructure programs. Data Center or chiller plant construction experience a plus.

  • Professional licenses in Construction Management or Mechanical Engineering such as from the American Institute of Constructors or Construction Management Association of America or equivalent experience.

  • Ability to work effectively across teams, effectively manage schedules, support commissioning teams and procedures, equipment coordination, delivery schedule, documentation and turnover processes.

  • Experience managing large multi-faceted mechanical projects.

  • Ability to independently manage deadlines.

  • Experience in planning and installation of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) and piping/plumbing systems and installing equipment such as pumps, exchangers, and compressors, chillers and VFD’s.

Construction Project Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,600 - $183,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $122,000 - $200,500 per year.
