Eaton Corporation Product Design Specialist - Electrical Engineering in Milton, Ontario

Eaton’s Electrical sector is currently seeking a Product Design Specialist - Electrical Engineering to join our team. This position is based at our Milton, ON facility and offers benefits from Day 1.

What you’ll do:

Position Overview:

The Product Design Specialist’s primary function will be supporting Eaton Canada’s largest manufacturing plant in the customized mechanical design of low-voltage distribution assemblies. This position will be part of the site engineering design team and will have the opportunity to work with different departments, including central engineering, manufacturing, sales, marketing, supply chain and more to satisfy live customer orders.

In this function, you will:

  • Customize new and existing products using Inventor to fulfill live customer orders.

  • Assess incoming Custom Switchboard orders to identify new design elements/gaps.

  • Maintain Product Option Matrix to provide a real-time visual depiction of available configurations & product line gaps.

  • Identify, approve, and implement product improvements to reduce cost & improve quality.

  • Create & maintain standard drawings and modules, issuing & implementing Engineering Change Notices.

  • Determine manufacturing methods & optimal materials and specifications to produce parts & sub-assemblies for new products or customer orders, leveraging Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) methodology, and FMEA & VA/VE tools.

  • Instruct and train manufacturing personnel on new or revised manufacturing methods.

  • Participate in CSA/UL audit, non-conformance material requests (NCMRs), and Corrective Action Requests (CAR), as required.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Diploma in Electrical Technology.

  • Minimum 5 years of prior technical experience with Low Voltage Power Distribution Products, with a minimum of two (2) years in a Manufacturing or Design Engineering capacity.

  • Minimum 1 year experience with Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D Modelling software

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering.

  • Licensed P.Eng or CET, strongly preferred.

  • Technical experience working with switchboards/switchgear.

Position Criteria:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with PC and related software, including MS Office Suite; MetaCAM Programming experience would be an asset

  • Training and Experience with Lean and Six Sigma Tools; LSS Green or Black belt would be considered an asset.

  • Strong technical acumen, paired with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including a keen understanding of common sheet-metal forming/fabrication techniques & ability to inspire a shared vision.

  • Experience using and interpreting the Canadian Electrical Code, and applicable CSA & UL Standards.

  • Candidate must be familiar with common testing requirements for Low-Voltage Power Distribution Equipment (short circuit, thermal, seismic, etc), and have a proven ability to design-for-manufacturing in an Engineered-to-Order environment.

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team.

  • Proven ability to lead projects/teams and consistently achieve results through self & others.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Strong analytical skills & methodical, objective, approach to problem-solving.
