Role Headline

Planner/Scheduler is a diverse position covering the planning, scheduling, releasing, and tracking of workflow from tendering, project execution and final commissioning. This position will be the focal point in creating the business unit’s projects scheduling system. The Planner creates, tracks, and reports on the active project status. This position functions as a liaison between Tendering, Project Management, Engineering, Purchasing, Subcontractors, Quality and Site commissioning and installations teams. It is a focal point among all departments to effectively communicate and help meet project requirements. Controls and monitors active projects to ensure a smooth execution considering optimum use of the resources. Report on the active projects in accordance with the respective contractual obligations.

Responsibilities of the Role

Planning

  • Function as the focal point in creating a project schedule using the best combination of Software tools such MS project, MRP system, Excel, and Access.The project scheduler’s purpose is to provide a means to track and manage daily workload on the larger projects, provide feedback to all stake holders and provide regular reporting on project status.The project scheduler will provide an in-depth audit on capacity, schedule, and workforce size.

  • Monitors, analyses, and reports performance to schedule of project activities utilising information derived from various sources.

  • Coordinate with Tendering, Project Management, Engineering, Purchasing, Subcontractors, Quality and Site commissioning and installations teams to sequence the required outputs.

  • Assist the various stake holders to actively manage the project schedule.

  • Prepare rolling horizon reports for the project execution team to manage work packages effectively.

  • Coordinate with all stake holders as needed to identify and resolve issues regarding budget and delivery.

  • Monitor quality, service, and delivery issues, and take corrective actions as needed.

  • Identify and resolve supplier and internal errors that result in budget or schedule discrepancies

  • Provide continual improvement of the planning and reporting processes.

  • Participate in customer progress meetings.

  • Actively contributes to cooperation with all others involved and with interface partners passing on all relevant information, to keep themselves and others informed and create an optimum project execution.

Releasing

  • Routine clerical duties to support department activities and equipment.May include supervision of others performing these duties.

  • Stay informed of current projects, tasks and resources in alignment with the Project Management Manager.

  • Function as the focal point to move towards a more efficient engineering resource utilisation.The goal is improvement productivity and reduced NCC cost.

Miscellaneous

  • Coordinate and manage special projects as required.

  • Oversee assistants as required by department structure and workload.

  • Occasionally visit customers’ sites to present Siemens capabilities and to gather information on projects.

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and ethics codes and ensure that they are communicated and implemented within each project.

  • Assist with the development, documentation, and implementation of Siemens procedures and standards.

  • Follow ISO9001 quality standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the success of projects, individuals, and the company.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant tertiary Degree/Diploma, in Project Planning or equivalent, or a technical field in Electrical Engineering/Installations

  • 3 - 5 years of related experience in a project or installation environment, may be acceptable in lieu of a degree and of which 3+ years’ experience in planning/scheduling role

  • Strong Electrical aptitude.

  • Competent with computer software such as, AutoCAD, Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

  • 3 – 5 years experience working on MS Project, Primavera Platforms (Essential)

  • Experience working within an ISO quality plan (Advantageous)

  • Basic understanding of Contract Management (NEC)
